Mint frosting...

It's rather ironic that it would be YOU that would call me hostile in THIS thread when you are the one poster that hasn't offered any opinion about the topic.

Fair enough, I'll offer it later, but I was hardly hostile in my posts.

ALL you've done is mocking in a trollish way my use of ellipses.

Well, comeon, it was excessive.

Do you really think that your behavior is that of a contributive poster?

Seriously?

Probably not, but one not need to be contributive all of the time. But all of the threads I've seen you start pretty much right away puts anyone that disagrees with you on the defensive.

You're opening post ends with the implication that you are the only one who sees the problem which sort of puts you on pedestal over all of us who do not see this problem. We're now on the defense having to justify our thoughts rather than simply offering them.

See: My Turing Test thread, in which I provide my thoughts on Data's ability to pass it but do not present my opinion as being the best and only one and then ask for other opinions.

I don't say, "Am I the only one who thinks Data would fail this?! I mean Data's a joke of a machine who can't even use contractions and everything about him is artificial. He's not passing this and anyone who thinks he could is delusional. "

This also relates to your Commander Riker threads/posts where you use strong language about the character which pretty much is going to get anyone who disagrees' hair to stand on end which, again puts yhem on the defensive rather than more neutral ground.

As for your original topic? The story doesn't make a whole lot of sense, sure, but it was trying ti be entettaining in some manner and offer some insight into how Data's brain works, Maybe it's like our brain and has it's limits as well resulting in "selective blindness." There's so many beings and detecting them takes so much of Data's resources he can't both detect them and be aware of it. For whatever reason humans do this all of the time, our brains have to in order to keep from being overwhelmed and this plays a role in dreaming. As our brain processes things. Data is essentially doing the same thing.

His brain can't cope with the alien presence AND make him aware of it, this may even be why he "oversleeps" his brain is dealing with too much. Maybe along the lines with when Troi lost her empathic ability when the ship was in a sea of 2-dimensional beings.

But, the episide was fairly silly.

Let me get things straight. Your post was noncontributing, mocking and hardly constructive, BUT your justification is "come on! It was too much". So it's ok to ignore the message someone is trying to convey as soon as you find something even slightly objectionable in the way they express themselves. It's also OK to try to humiliate them by presenting a caricature of the one aspect of their message you find objectionable. And they shouldn't construe your behavior as hostile since you are the one deciding what's hostile and what's not. Obviously you find something hostile in the way I write "hi" because most of the time my answers are amicable or at the very least neutral, you can ignore these like some 1984 big brother and decree as you did that I ALWAYS am VERY hostile. Because that's the way you do things, you like superlatives, negative ones for others and I guess positive ones to describe yourself. You exaggerate, you slander people but that's OK since according to your own yardstick you are definitely NOT hostile...

About Riker:

Riker, as people kept telling me at the same time they were insulting me (is there a bigger aberration?), is imaginary. It's ok not to like an imaginary person. I don't like Columbo for example even though it seemed to be something of a consensus to like him at a time. I find him too much of a caricature to be believable and I find his tics annoying. Still, no one has ever jumped down my throat for not liking him the way some did here for not liking riker. I find that... to keep things civil... characteristic. Let's just leave it at that.

Nah, you're hostile. I haven't posted a whole lot, but I lurk often and have seen the usual way you tend to interact with people. This isn't a hate-gram from me on that point, but you have a tendency to be gruff, intolerant, arrogant and needlessly argumentative with people who disagree with you. Also, it's a pretty classic move for an aggressor to spin things to make themselves out to be the victim. In regard to the reason we're all here, are you sure you're even a fan, or do you just like to hate-watch? Just things I've noticed that you might want to consider.

Anyway.

As for androids, they may exist someday but I doubt very much that they'll be anything like Data, who is let's face it, an aberration, come on! He has allegedly encyclopedic knowledge yet still doesn't understand expressions like "taking a rain check"? Ask Google, you'll see that IT does.

To be fair, Google doesn't really "understand" the expression either. It's a genius bit of technology, but really nothing more than a powerful reference tool. Google "itself' can't explain it to you.

I do agree that it's pretty unbelievable that Data would have such a vast databank of pre-programmed knowledge, but it's not cross referenced enough to make common idioms, among other things, familiar and easy to understand. You'll notice that after the first couple of seasons, when he was confounded by something, he no longer stopped and said, "Huh. Accessing *processing face* Ah." I guess the writers realized that didn't make sense in the story or his character development.

In later seasons, Data's knowledge was derived from some pre-programmed information, but significantly more so from a combination of that and information he had first or second-hand experience with and then committed to his memory banks.

I guess if you wanted a reason within the story for this change in behavior, you could say that at some point Data realized his programmed knowledge banks were more incomplete and unhelpful than he realized and learned to depend on them less in favor of communicating with other beings or sources.

Do you need to take a rest or something?

Do you need a trolling warning?

Am I the only one you're monitoring around here? I have been attacked quite a few times since I've started posting here. I've never seen you issue any warnings to those people.

Since you decided to ask the question in the thread, I will answer it here. Not the only one, just the most frequent irritant at this moment. In spit of your self-justifications, you are personal, hostile and arrogant in your defensiveness regarding perceived slights. You have not received and actual warnings yet but your accumulated behavior is increasing that likelihood. Once you have attracted the attention of the moderating staff, unfortunately, you kind of keep it.

Trekker4747, you're on notice to leave moderating to the moderators. Leave Kobayshi Maru alone.

It's more you have a very hostile tone whenever someone disagrees with you or challenges your interpretations of things. In this thread people have offered their opinions and views on the events in the episode and you countered each one of them with hostility. I've not followed all of your posts and such but the ones I've seen have been very much along these lines.

If people were breaking the rules, trust me, warnings or moderator interventions would occur for them as well. But your more hostile tone is shining a brighter light in you. If you're going to solicit people's opinions on things don't be so hostile when they offer an opinion or view you disagree with.

Trekker4747, as I said in my reply to Kobayshi Maru, leave the moderating to the moderators. No more personal replies to KM.

I will stop making personal remarks from now on, no matter how benign. I just hope people will return the favor as it has not always been the case in recent history.
