Also starring Ben Affleck, Mila Kunis and J.K. Simmons.Dean (Jason Bateman), the owner of a flower-extract plant, tries to contend with myriad personal and professional problems, such as his potentially unfaithful wife (Kristen Wiig) and employees who want to take advantage of him.
My wife and I checked it out last night after debating between it and Food, Inc. ... and I really wish we would have gone for the latter.
Extract is horribly disjointed, with several subplots that go absolutely nowhere. Mike Judge is clearly out of his element, and it seems like he's taking steps back both as a filmmaker and as a writer. It's ugly-looking, and really amateurish. You can tell that they had their certain amount of setups and stuck to them. Bateman enters the house the same way every time, J.K. Simmons came to the door the same way every time. It felt like Judge was expecting them all to do a lot of improv and say a lot of funny things ... and it just never happened. Honestly, Ben Affleck was the brightest spot of the movie -- and how often can you honestly say that? Really, he seemed like the only actor in the movie who was giving a shit.
I wouldn't waste $17.50 on this movie again. Has anyone else seen it?
