Mike Connors, 1925-2017

Mike Connors has died of leukemia at 91. He played serious, fist-swinging detective Joe Mannix for eight seasons on the CBS TV series Mannix. Born Krekor Ohanian in Fresno California, he was proud of his Armenian heritage and incorporated into Mannix's background, despite the Irish surname.

I was too little to remember much about Mannix in its run, but I have watched it all in the last few years and really enjoyed it. Connors was always fun to watch and it was fun to spot him in later years on shows like Murder, She Wrote. Sorry to see him go.

I did a full rewatch of Mannix, one ep a week, over a couple years recently. It was every bit as much fun as I remembered.

My granny could never watch Mannix as Mike Connors was a ringer for her brother who died tragically young.
