Michael Giacchino, who composed the music for the three Kelvin-Timeline Star Trek movies (and a couple other things here and there) has announced an album of beachy, mid-century surf-rock versions of various themes he's composed over the years. Exotic Themes for the Silver Screen — Volume 1 comes out on July 26th, but the full version of "Enterprising Young Men" has been released as a preview.

Sounds like elevator music to me.
If you look at the linked article, Giacchino says these versions were "inspired by the work of Arthur Lyman and Martin Denny" (who, in the late 1950s, popularized a sort of 'fake Polynesian music' that might later be considered lounge jazz. Lyman was the group's marimba / vibraphone player and later recorded under his own name in a similar style.)

Listen to the 1957 Martin Denny album Exotica for examples.

I can hear a little Hawaiian here. Sounds decent.

That really gave me a little boost.

Thank you so much for sharing it.

While the full album doesn't drop until tomorrow, it's already tomorrow in England, where the album's label "Made by Mutant" is based, so you can already order it from there if you're a buy-music-and-download-it person like me. If you're into streaming, it should be live in a few hours. Or now, potentially, depending on your time-zone.
