Metal Gear Solid possibly coming to Live Arcade?

It's just a rumor, but I think it's a great idea and a game Xbox owners who've never played the original should definitely not overlook IF it happens. I think despite somewhat aged controls, MGS still holds up really well.

MGS coming to XBLA?

Oh boy... I can imagine the fanboy reaction now.
At the very least it'd be a change from the dual stick shooter though.

Metal Gear Solid filled up two 650MB CDs with all of its dialogue. Heck, even The Twin Snakes filled up two GameCube discs, and those held, what, 1.5GB each?

There'd have to be some ridiculously heavy compression on the game for it to even come close to fitting within the 350MB limit -- and that's even assuming that Konami would care to work with Microsoft given the close relationship that KCEJ has with Sony.

Rumor is they've got the size down to 150MB, which IS sort of ridiculous and hard to believe given the sheer amount of audio, but I think this is one of those games MS would be willing to bend the riles for similar to Bionic Commando and Street Fighter II.

Also, as the article states, MS did publish the PC release of MGS.

I have the original game for PC and played it for the PS1 back when it came out...a legendary game :techman:

I couldn't possibly believe that. There's no way you turn 1.2GB worth of game into 150MB unless the audio quality has been compressed to the point that it sounds like it's coming out of a DS.

Even at 350MB, there's no way. I mean ... this is something I'd love to see, but if Konami, for the recent Essentials Collection, simply re-pressed old CD-ROMs of Metal Gear Solid and DVDs of Metal Gear Solid 2, I can't imagine one of Kojima's teams taking that level of time and resources for a Live Arcade project.

Yeah, but that was, what, almost a decade ago?

I wouldnt be so shocked if MGS came out for the Xbox. I mean, MGS1 appeared on PC and the Gamecube as well as the PS1. MGS2 came out for the PC and Xbox as well as the PS2. I would imagine MGS3 might have even found its way to the Xbox if it wasnt for the fact that the Xbox was on its way out

Maybe they cut the dialog and replaced everything with on-screen text, like the Snake-Tales?!?
Though i can imagine the shit-storm that would cause...

Wouldn't the sound on the original discs have been uncompressed though? If so, that could easily be compressed to at least 1/8th the size with little to no difference.
