Memorabilia collecting habits

The other day I found some 1993 Playmates action figures in a box. I almost forgot I still had them. Riker, Picard, Troi, Worf, Odo and Quark. All I ever got back then and I wondered why I never got more, seeing as that I was kind of into action figures at the time. And, well, still am... And why did I never own an Enterprise model?

I thought about it and realized I spent all my money back then on a wide selection of those cardboard stand-ups that were in fashion then. Kirk, Spock, Picard, Worf, Sisko, Kira, Janeway and Seven of Nine stood all, in lifesize no less, in my room back at my parents' house.

Not that these are sitting stacked away in my basement, I wish I had gotten some good pocket-sized action figures instead.

Which area of collecting (if any) did you focus on? Do you own any especially rare items you're proud of? Cause mine would probably be the TMP photostory by Richard J. Anobile.

Not a first printing or anything, but something so quaint and unique, I had to have it.

How about you? Show off here!

hey i've a warth of khan version of that book:)
trouble is some of the pics are upside down.
cant say i really focus on any particular area, if i see a trekkies bit i like and i can afford it i'll generally buy it. though at one time i did try and get all the models but run out of room so sold them off.
got a lot of card models off the net waiting to be built at a later stage when i get room.

I have a huge collection of Trek books, most of them the 1980s and 1990s. If something unsual catches my eye I will pick it up if the price is right! :)

I've never seen the TMP photonovel, so I'm a little envious... :)

My main memorabilia collecting concentrated on stills, the photonovels, and fan-made memorabilia. Fan-made stuff was and always will be my favourite Trek memorabilia. I love that someone had the idea and then went to all the trouble to make it. I also have a large collection of stills that I've collected over the years. Oh, and magazines. I liked buying those, too. I was never a collector as such, never really interested in getting a collectiion of anything together. That way madness lies - for me at least!

I've amassed far too many autographed Star Trek photos and posters.

I've nowhere to display them and are keeping most of them in the hope that as more Trek actors leave us, their signatures might rise in value.

Sadly, the bottom's fallen out of the autograph market.

the most i have collected is of autographs i have about 95% of all of the main cast then a few of the regular reappearing actors and i've got a good few books aswell.

I like the ships so I got all of the Playmate ships and the Art Asylum ones. I also have a four foot long Enterprise E model I brought from a company in England for $1000. It was a pain in the butt to put together, but I did.

I... still collect stuff, is that wrong? Mostly it is action figures from Diaond Select, the TOS ones of course.

I have a few ships as well, the battle-damaged Wrath of Khan for one. Oh, and I've got more than a few Tribbles as well, and a phaser & will someday soon get the communicator to go along with it.

A few weeks ago, I made my biggest purchase yet, I bought an A-W-E-S-O-M-E fanmade Captain Kirk chair!! Cost me about 500 bucks, but it was cheap considering I was going to buy a tv-chair & a new computer chair as my previous one recently broke, I use this as a combo.

I find yours not wrong at all. On the contrary, I'd love to get back into some collecting myself (funds permitting, that is). And it is my belief that a Star Trek fan should have an Enterprise model somewhere. And I don't! So I should really get one....

Lookingglassman: Wow, four foot? Where do you put it?

No it's not wrong !! Now what you did to that girl back in 2002...NOW THAT WAS WRONG!! :guffaw:

I still collect some stuff, not as much as I did 15 years ago. I'm restricted by either money or ability to find but I have focused on books (looking for any of the older Jackill refrence manuals), ships, Xmas ornaments, shirts/hats. Used to be big into autographs but those don't interest me as much, could be the price.

One thing I got sucked into now is the comics. Never was a big comic guy but have started getting hooked.

I wanted a toy Enterprise as a kid but never got one. Now I just own a bunch of the non-fiction books like the encyclopedia, tech manuals and ds9 episode guide. I also have a copy of the Enterprise-D blueprints.

Lunch Boxes. Star Trek and food. Two of the great loves of my life! Rolled into lovely metal packages. What's not to love? Please all feel free to donate to my fund to finance the original dome-top from Aladdin - they run $300-$400 on ebay - not allowed to buy one - spousal unit sez the money is better spent on actual food or utilities or clothes for the kids or whatnot . . . jeesh!

i have the two life-size Star Trek V VHS stand up posters (kirk and spock), as well as every american released movie poster except for one first contact one and the one about seatbelts from star trek V.

I have about a $5000 collection, I would say. Probably not in this market though. I havent seriously collected in about two years, but I may start up again if the movie takes off.

I have never had any particular collecting strategy. A little of this, a little of that. The only thing I tried to collect in any degree of totality was Star Trek TNG, The Customizable Card Game. What a money pit. I gave up after the First Contact Series. Don't even know how many more they got to. I also had most of the Micro Machines ships, except for the Voyager ones, that I saw in a collection of 15 or 20 or so. I have misplaced the box in which I stored them, and have not seen them in years.

Now I mostly get stuff that will fit in with the Zhang Heng, or any thing that pleases me (what a novel idea!).
