Mel kind of like River Song? Trial Of A Time Lord continuity...

Dinosauricon

Lieutenant
EDIT: Oops! Move to Doctor Who Forum!!

Apart from having red hair, that is. A companion that the Doctor meets 'out of order' so to speak.

This one's a bit of a doozy:

Here's a bit of a continuity problem-we're told that "Vervoids", where the Doctor adventures with Mel, happens at some point in the Doctor's future. Yet at the end, Mel is spirited to the space station, obviously post-"Vervoids"-However hasn't met yet (Although he knows who she is from viewing the Vervoid adventure) since he's been on the space station presumabely the whole serial (He had just been plucked from his last adventure with Peri, after all). However, at the end they board the TARDIS together, presumabely to go on their adventures....so either this is a paradox, lazy writing by the Bakers, or the books/audios explain what happened via something we can call season 23b, I suppose:

The Doctor, after the trial, drops Mel off well, with himself in the future (Still in the Sixth incarnation), or somewhere where his future self will eventually meet with her. The Doctor then goes on a few other adventures with other companions such as Evelyn and Grant (Maybe Frobisher as well), before 'properly' meeting Mel in the novel "Business Unusual". Then "Vervoids" happens properly in the timeline (Although with the Doctor mostly aware of what's going to happen, apparentally) then presumabely a few more adventures before " Time and The Rani" begins....
