The Oscar winner has signed on to the series, which is set 40 years before the events of the film series starring Keanu Reeves. It’s set at the titular hotel, a gathering place for international assassins.

The three-part series, which has tapped Albert Hughes as its lead director, will center on the young version of Winston Scott, played by Ian McShane in the films. The character is pulled back into a world he thought he’d left behind and takes on a harrowing attempt to seize control of the hotel.

Gibson is playing a character named Cormac.

according to this it will consist of three 90 minute episodes

Sounds good. He seems like he would make for a good villain or rough around the edges type you need in this franchise.

I swore off Mel Gibson movies for Lent, the year he foisted The Passion of the Christ on the world.

And I never took them up again.

Then again, it wasn't difficult: the only Mel Gibson movie I've ever seen (or even had an interest in seeing) only has his voice in it.

Anybody want to buy a completely legit VHS tape of Chicken Run, cheap? You can have it for the postage.

Come to think about it, John Wick movies don't interest me, either.

I saw Expendables 3 but don't really recall his performance much. I know the guy can play intense though and if he call up even some of his Braveheart energy it might be interesting. My guess though is he will be in charge of the hotel so he will be both a help and thorn to the main hero. Also I bet it will be less of a revenge type of story and more about the main character trying to rise to the top into a leadership position since we know he will someday be in charge.

I'm a little conflicted when it comes to the expansion of the John Wick universe.

Part of what makes them so great is the implied background of a vast, superorganized underworld where assassinations are ordered and handled like any other business. We are thrown right into the middle of this world yet it is never explained in detail, it's just there and all the audience can do is piece it together bit by bit.

This half-mystery is what sets Wick apart from other movies with great action and i don't want that ruined by shining a spotlight on it via other shows or movies. However if done well and not too revealing it could add to the mystery.

That is true. My hopes is maybe they will both deepen the mystery while also at the same time telling us more about it. The ole one answer leads to 2 more questions type of thing.

I don't think this John Wick show will be a procedural. I think it ha a real shot of being good. Gibson also is still to tainted to get network tv I think so he will likely be working on edgy gritty stuff that doesn't care to much about Twitter or mainstream success. The Mr Robot and Orphan Black's or Black Mirror's of tv.
