Meeting Shatner at a convention: Suggestions? Expectations?

I haven't met Bill, but I have had other experiences. The crazy price for autographs is relatively new. First con I went to was in January of 2001, and I met Robbie McNeill on Saturday and George Takei on Sunday. It was a Creation Entertainment affair, which was a lot of fun. Since then I have not been to a Trek - exclusive convention. There was no charge for their autograph, though Scott MacDonald and other bit actors had booths where they charged. Scott actually gave me three autographs for the price of one since I was a broke kid and he saw that I was carrying a trading card with Tosk, N'Vek and Rollins. Very nice man.

. A year later Arvin shimmer man came to a local con in the basement of Portlands' s Memorial Coliseum. He was apparently using the trip to visit his in-laws. Me, my dad and my brother all got his autograph. I got him to sign my Quark CCG card. He was very nice and must have been asked to sign a lot of them around that time.

He asked me a little about the game and I explained that the Quark card was among the best characters. Because this was a comics - only convention Arvin got stuck in a far-off section and there was no sign. I had to ask Andy Mangels where he was because no other guests had been able to find him. We got to talk for a while. Then it got awkward when my Dad went and bought a copy of Star Trek Communicator from 1994 with Quark on the cover. He made me go have it autographed "To Melody [my mom], remember when you stroked my lobes?" I got a weird look.

Did not attend another con until January of this year. I got to get a photo with Katee Sackhoff. She was great and actually talked for a bit, since we're both from the same small town. In the autograph line she spent like a minute with people. At the same con Stephen Amell kind of acted like he didn't want to be there, but I think I would be like that too if my wife and toddler were cooped up in the green room all day long. Alan Turk was amazingly friendly. He joked with ky friends about their Kick Puncher costume and was really surprised when I told him I had been a fan since A Knight's Tale.

Met Wil Wheaton last month. There were constant reminders from staff not to touch him. He did let me leave a couple RPG books with his assistant and was very polite. For my wife I got a double picture with Brandon Route and Manu Bennett. Manu really wanted to hold our daughter but she got why. Both guys were crazy friendly. Both were all smiles and Brandon, who was next to my wife, complimented her.
