News McFarlane to Create Discovery Toys

Bold and underlined added for emphasis by me - I hope they don't know something we don't.

McFarlane Toys has acquired the license to produce action figures and collectibles based on the new Star Trek Discovery television series, as well as product from other past Trek shows such as The Original Series and The Next Generation and more. The first two figures planned in the 7″ Color Tops line is Captain James T. Kirk (TOS) and Captain Jean-Luc Picard (TNG). Other figures and collectibles are planned from Star Trek: Discovery and other Trek Series.
The new Trek series is planned for release on CBS in the Spring of 2018, which is a new live-action reboot series. Fans should expect to see the first wave of product by next year, which should be launched sometime before the new series airs.

Everyone should know this is a visual reboot. This will not look like the 1960's TOS era, that does not mean its not TOS, but it wont look like the 1960's idea of the future.

Might have meant this line is a go for 2018
No, that is covered in the next line: "Fans should expect to see the first wave of product by next year, which should be launched sometime before the new series airs."

So the first toys should be released before Discovery airs. If release date is really in autumn then first toys whould be available in late summer. Which is still this year. Not next year.

EDIT:
Ok, the original source of the article says nothing about releasing toys before the show.
Mcfarlane’s Star Trek toys will be available in the spring of 2018 at major retailers worldwide.

Meanwhile, the new Star Trek series will premiere on CBS Television Network with all subsequent episodes available on CBS All access, the network’s digital subscription video on-demand and live streaming service.

I imagined Seth McFarlane, in his Orville uniform, in a darkened room hand-crafting little Discovery action figures.

I'm very disappointed.
Who's to say he isn't?

Also it's probably wishful thinking but I'm hoping Figma (or at least Goodsmile) gets their hands on figure licenses as well instead of just Funko Pop. *shivers*
