Max Payne: The Movie

Max Payne is one of my favourite video games ever. I'm not a huge gamer, but that one was one that hooked me, that I stuck with, that I finished and played again.

I was excited when I learned they were making a movie, but was a little disappointed at the director and the casting of Mark Wahlberg as Payne.

After seeing this trailer, my excitement is peaked again. Wahlberg does the Payne narration perfectly, and there are plenty of visuals right out of the game. It looks fantastic!

Only played the first game, but I keep meaning to get the second.

One or two of the visuals looked a little odd (One right just near the end particularly, but I may just have missed that in the game)

There's a few familiar faces in the trailer. I think this will go on the list as one to check out:)

as my previous avatars have shown I'm a big max payne fan
I can't wait to see this movie!

I'm at work so I can't wait to get home and watch the trailer with sound :D

What's odd is that in the trailer there's a girl in the elevator that looks a lot like Mona Sax, but doesn't look at all like the actress that's supposed to play her.
Also, no crazy cello theme... Although, maybe that's just music for the trailer and not the actual movie.

The trailer looked good though. I'm not sure if those winged angle people are meant to be real or just hallucinations due to the drug, but it looked noticeably stylish. They also did the "jump forward shooting" thing that you could do in the game... and it looks like they're avoiding bullet time altogether, which may be a good thing.

I never played Max Payne, but I always enjoyed watching one of my friends playing it (I'm not a gamer by any means). This looks pretty cool.

...and it looks like they're avoiding bullet time altogether, which may be a good thing.

At about 18 seconds into the trailer, right before the 20th Century Fox logo, there appears to be a bullet time shot.

I hope they use it, as it was such a huge part of the game, but I hope they use it sparingly.

Hrm, it might be. It does look like it could be the start of a Matrix-like sequence.

I suppose using it once wouldn't be a big deal. Too much use of it or even an elaborate use of it and it turns into Wanted.

Someone help jog my memory:

I played the game years ago (it's a great one!) - but what's with the angel at the end of the trailer?! I have no recollection of anything remotely like that from either the game or the sequel.

Love the tone of the trailer. Max Payne is effectively set during Ragnarok, the Norse end of the world - I hope the film subtly conveys that too - (or perhaps not so subtly, if there are supernatural beings flying around?!)

Or maybe I'm just totally forgetful about the game ...

I hope they have a, "You're in a movie, Max" moment....

Me too. That was one of my favourite parts of the game, and one of the best-ever twisted breakings of the fourth wall.

What happened?

When Horne injects Payne with an OD of Valkyr, and he begins hallucinating. At one point, you enter a room and look at a book and a cut scene plays in which Max realizes he's in a graphic novel. Then you leave the room and come back in it again from the other side, and it's a different cut scene, where Max realizes he's in a video game.

Loved the Max Payne games but this movie seems a few years past the time to make it. Looks interesting though and, mostly, keeping the tone and look of the games. Needs a more noir-esque look for me though.

Code:
The truth was a burning green crack through my brain. Weapon statistics hanging
in the air, glimpsed out of the corner of my eye. Endless repetition of the
act of shooting, time slowing down to show off my moves. The paranoid feel of
someone controlling my every step. I was in a computer game. Funny as Hell,
it was the most horrible thing I could think of.

Looks faithful to the game and of course it will be panned by critics and liked by fans though I have to admit it probably won't be sucessful.

God, I don`t remember that at all. It`s Kojima-esque.

Nice, really looking forward to this, the game was great fun. I hope they keep the noir-ish monologues intact, good stuff, made me want to boot up the game again.
