Rockstar Announces Max Payne 3

by Orlando Parfitt, IGN UK

UK, March 23, 2009 - Rockstar has announced that Max Payne 3 is currently in development and will be released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC this winter. Rockstar Vancouver is developing the game, which will tell the story of a retired police detective embroiled in a world of corruption, turmoil and intense violence.

Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games, said: "We're starting a new chapter of Max's life with this game." He continued: "This is Max as we've never seen him before, a few years older, more world-weary and cynical than ever. We experience the downward spiral of his life after the events of Max Payne 2 and witness his last chance for salvation."

The last in the series, Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne, was released back in 2003.

Hell yes! :techman::techman:

HELL YES!! Bullet Timez! Mickey Spillanez! No Mark Wahlbergz! And Dick Justice!

Seriously if it's even half as good as the first two, it will be amazing. My only concern is that they'll have to start from scratch here because at the end of the second one everyone from the series was dead(or probably dead) and Max didn't have Wooden to bail his ass out like he did in the first one. Mona "Teh Secks" Sax will be missed in this one(although there's the hidden ending where she lives on Super Hard Mode).

I would expect a lot of new characters, especially given the jump forward in time. That and of course the events of MP2.

We can dream that Max and Mona got married and moved out into the country somewhere and had a few kids. But what fun would that be? They could do bullet time while he's milking the cows. Kind of like the fight scene from Kung Pow.

I'm going to assume that the Mona survived going by the Hard ending. I am looking forward to over the top metaphors and massive gun play.

By R* Toronto supposedly?

Eh, I have no expectations.... but it's really sad that this is coming out before stupid Alan Wake. :p

I don't know about this, I loved the first 2 Max Payne films (and I'm not even going to mention the movie), but I can't help but wonder it they are just trying to go off the back of the film and they plan to change contunity for the films sake, they've done it before.

But I guess, I was skeptical like this when Resident Evil 4 came out, and I list that in my top 10 of all time games.

Anyway: this sounds like good news.

It will be interesting to see what kind of story they develop for the new game.

Remedy ended the second game so conclusively, you'd think they were trying to prevent any further sequels.

I still need to play the second.
the story is great, not as good as the first, but the graphics and gameplay are fantastic

for me the game has had tremendous replay value
there's just something fun about doing headshots in bullet time through the scope on the MP4

I actually liked the story more and the gameplay was so much better. The Havok physics engine makes battles so much fun.

Agreed. The story and gameplay of the second game was an improvement in every way over the first. I'd place the second game pretty high up in my favorite games list. Plus, yeah, watching ragdolls fly everywhere in bullet time is one of the most satisfying things to be had in a game.
