It's not quite an Emmy, but we'll take it!
The US cable network Spike TV has an annual star-studded awards show called the Scream Awards and this year Matt Smith won the Best Sci-Fi Actor category, beating out Chris Evans for Captain America, and both Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford for Cowboys & Aliens.
Doctor Who itself lost the TV series category to Game of Thrones, while Karen Gillan was defeated by Milla Jovovich in the last Resident Evil movie.
As I say, it's not quite the Emmys, but the Screams are fast becoming on par with MTV's Movie Awards, so it's still a pretty big deal to have Doctor Who nominated in 3 categories and win one in a US awards show. In fact if you ignore the "niche" awards like the Hugos and the Saturns, which are aimed at a specific audience and are considered more "serious" awards, I think this is actually the first time Doctor Who has been honored in what I might call a "mainstream US" awards show. The closest it's come to something like this was when it was nominated for a People's Choice Award a few years ago.

Sad part is I'm going to have to actually watch Spike TV on the 18th to see the award show...
