I spent several hours with Richard Jefferies this afternoon discussing new web designs and reviewing the previous post by Scott Pearson about the new Matt Jefferies Biography. I have spent the past 2 years with Richard working on the 200+ images that are contained in this full color glossy 327 page, +2LBS book. The "Beyond the Clouds" Biography has been a labor of love and is a tribute to Matt's creative genius. Creating a ship unlike anything seen before, his set designs and props helped spark the imagination of this Trekkie and it has been a pleasure to work with Richard on this project. This Biography is not the product of a publisher trying to capitalize on a Trekkies buck. It is Richard's tribute to Matt and the entire body of his lifes work and his inspirations. With the price of gas at $3.25 to $4.00 a gallon, this biography costs less than 8-10 gallons and will provide a lot more enjoyment.
The Website was an after thought. Brown Publishing, who printed and distributes the book has a payment portal on the web for people to order the book online. (mattjefferies.com also uses this payment portal) Richard and I felt after looking at the webpage, that we should add a web tribute to Matt in the form of a Star Trek themed design. The current website is a "1st generation" and is just a taste of what is to come. We only had a couple of weeks to get it built before the release of the book. Mike Okuda's "TNG-era Okudagram" is the inspiration for the current websites design and for the "Next Generation" website that is currently in production. Mike Okuda is a Matt Jefferies fan and was also gracious enough to design and supply us with another graphic element in the website. No one has picked up on it yet so I will stay "mum" until someone guesses. We have placed additional trivia from Matt's life and the show on the index page that hasn't been picked up on.
While the foundation of the "next generation" site is set. Richard and I would appreciate any input from other "Trekkies" about what they would like to see on the site. The site is a tribute to Matt, this is your opportunity to contribute. I will be monitoring this post for comments so feel free to make them.
