Here's the thing, in my honest opinion....
Cinema is NOT dead. But it is no longer THE way to watch the latest movies. People are ok with waiting a while and taking their time. Today's world is a fucked up, messed up, shit version of life. And if we don''t have to follow the pattern forced on us by cinema schedules and others things we have to do in live, but simply wait until we can do what we like when it works for us, that's awesome!
So many people only go to the cinema's for the movies they really want to see straight away. The rest, we can wait.
Now, I know a lot of people will say 'people always did that, with renting movies on VHS or DVD'. Sure, but no. They still had to pay. I was really curious about movies like Prey, Predator Badlands, some of the latest MCU movies, MotU, Superman and Supergirl. But I was fine with waiting until they were free. Or in the case of Superman, buy it so I can watch it when ever. Like tonight.
Because currently I pay for three streaming services. I can't afford to go the cinema for every movie when ever I want. The ticket prices are fucked up.
So I wait. Unless I really want to see it soon. Like the next Spider-Man movie, hopefully this weekend. My cinema buddy and I will most likely do Dunesday. Shit like that.
But the generic movie going audience in 2026 is oke with waiting for MotU for be free on a streaming service they already pay for. Becasuse, welcome to the future.

tbf, the original DOES involve earth, at least slightly, Queen Marlena being an Earth Spacewoman. and orco's accidental visitation during Christmas.
the way this involved earth, though, raises weird questions. overall i thought it was fun, but it felt like they couldn't decide what tone to take, and was definitely at it's best when it was playing it straight.
there isn't really a good reason to make it "meta" any more than any other fantasy or scifi or comic book movie does.
Indeed. So as far as I did really enjoy, maybe even love, this movie.... I would be curious about a MotU movie were it's just a fantasy world. Then again, the recent Netflix animation did that, and it was good. So I'm ok with leaving it here.

All of this is true. If I wanted to shrink this down to a Reader's Digest version it would be two things :Cost and Wait
Cost: Back in the 90s, my military discount allowed me to watch new releases for 5 dollars. The standard price wasn't much higher. I could buy a ticket, large popcorn and soda for about $20 dollars. So during the summer when all the big releases were coming out, me and my friends were making theater trips every Friday or Saturday. Today that price has almost tripled, hence I now only go a few times a year.
Wait: Back in the VHS and DVD days, you had to wait at least six months for a movie to come out on physical media. If it was a movie like The Titanic, you were waiting even longer. Today, I know I can wait as soon as a month and the movies are already available for digital download, which is far more affordable and conveinent.
So I'm fine with waiting on Masters of the Universe, Fantastic Four, Captain America 4, Evil Dead, 28 years later, Scary Movie etc. whereas back in the day I would have gladly paid to watch them in a theater.
Having said all that, I'm glad that Master of the Universe is finding its audience. I have fond memories of the cartoon and I still say that was the best collection of toys I ever had to play with.

You also toss in viewing experience. The average person in their home is going to have a better viewing experience watching a movie on their TV in 2026 than 1986.
And as some filmmakers try to justify the 'theater experience' by pushing out the IMAX stuff it just further increases the cost.

If I were to get tickets for 10AM on Tuesday they're the same price.
If I were to get tickets for say 8PM. They're $3 more. Although for some reason the large popcorn and a drink deal remains $27.67. Which kinda seems like you're being ripped off in the 'non-peak' time because why should the popcorn and drink cost you an extra $8.68 at 2PM, but then cost you an extra $5.68 at 8PM?
I'll also point out that's for 'one' ticket.
So you're pretty much at the point where buying that digital copy or blu-ray when it comes out may even be cheaper than a single ticket for the 'theater experience'
My apologies for only quoting this part of your post, but....
When I see video's of the amount of screaming, yelling and applauding people seem to do in American theaters.... I can truly understand most people NOT going to theaters there. I might be wrong, and maybe that's only a small percentage, but if that is the general viewing experience of a MCU movie for example, I would be pissed off.
I very, very rarely have ever had people do any of that in the theater when I've gone to a movie. The only one I can think of is people cheering when the Star Wars logo came up during the opening of The Force Awakens, but then everybody was quite once the main part of the movie started.
I'm expecting to start to see a bigger and bigger emphasis on the new gimmicks like Screen X and 4DX as time goes on. I know IMAX is the big thing right now, but that's just a really big screen, so I could see people starting to lean towards the more unique stuff.

Then theres other convienance which is not dealing with traffic to get to the theater , trying to find a close parking space and hoping the audience actually stays silent. When you take into consideration all those factors, a couple mouse clicks really is the better option.
