Mass Effect took Reapers from Elite Force 1

Not trying to say stole, but if anyone else played Elite Force and Mass Effect, did you notice that the enemies of that game were genetically enhanced creations called reavers, made by a being on a huge spacecraft to dominate the entire galaxy. I just got copies of both 1 and 2, which I have to say are among the best Trek games you could wish for and run smooth as silk on modern systems, shame they are so pricey and rare. Yet when I finished the first game I could not help but see so many striking similarities with the main villains and the ME Reapers. It always seemed like Mass Effect was made by lovers of Trek and sci-fi like it. So it does make sense, I just wish more people knew about the connection it could boost knowledge of these two great games that are sadly not remembered as much as they should be.

You are speaking of just the design, I am talking about their goals and story motivations as well as their backstory. As far as I know Cuttlefish are not out to rule the world, though I could be wrong.

The Reavers of EF are soldiers sent from the big ship to there target, while the ship destroys the target which could be planets or other spacecraft. They are an ancient race and the sole purpose is to take over the galaxy, there are a lot of similarities and yes the enemy and ship designs are similar as well. I am not saying Bioware stole it, but the story is just too similar for Bioware not to have at least been inspired by it. Which makes sense given they were fans of Trek.

Then in EF2 there's more ancient mysteries, and you have romance options where you choose between the human soldier, or the alien archaeologist. Those games are the closest i think we're going to get to something as good as Mass Effect for Trek.

Yea I just started 2 and I was really wowed by how it puts you in the world. It would be sad to think that is as good as it will get though, I have no clue why there are not more Trek games like that. I really was not trying to say it was stolen or a bad thing, kinda more like a cool thing really. To think that maybe one of Bioware's devs played Elite Force and thought, wow this is a great idea lets expand on that. Also it could make the games worth releasing on GOG if more people talked about it. If you don't already own the game, it can cost a small fortune to procure. Worth every penny though, there is nothing like exploring the Voyager and the Enterprise E in first person.

Also it could make the games worth releasing on GOG if more people talked about it.

Reason why that is not happening is because the license of these games are tied up between Viacom/CBS and Activision.
That is why games like Bridge Commander, Armada 1 & 2, Away Team, and Starfleet Command 3 are not released on GOG (or Invasion on the Playstation online store)

Ah, I had heard some stuff about that, that is a real shame both parties disagreeing when they both could make bank. Maybe someday others will get a chance to play it, I wish we treated games more like movies, kept them playable on new hardware instead of just letting them turn to dust.

This is why I hold onto my physical copies like they're gold. Love the elite force series, and the fact that some people still have their servers up is freaking awesome although it's rare to run into an actual player in the holodeck but the actual campaign is still solid to play. I had to download my copy from some 3rd person who took it upon himself to be able to play STEF on Win10 since the normal installation is no longer compatible. Not sure if I'm allowed to provide the link but just google it. lol

But yeah back to topic... I played ME waaaaay later, after all 3 were released and fell in love with the universe. And my initial gameplay this was my first thought exactly that SOMEONE must have known they were copying the reapers. Seriously. lol
