Marvel Noir books ,missing the boat without Iron Man

Hi all,

Marvel is reimagining for a short comicbook series set in the roaring 30's the titles are Spiderman,Daredevil, and Xmen called Marvel Noir, but no Iron Man,and its coming out in 2009.

Someone has to tell Marvel that they're missing the boat,by not including Iron Man in the series.

Just think Tony Stark is doing battle with German, and Russian spies, and is hurt in a sabotage attack, and has to save himself by creating his armor using 1930's tech remember this is armor is very primitive using vacumm tubes, and other electronic components that show a cross between Rocketeer, and a robotic construct.
Anybody got any thoughts, art concepts of what the armor would look like if Marvel would include our favorite shellhead.

Let the games begin

if this thread need to be moved to Trek Art,then please do otherwise lets have a lively discussion.

Since the intent is to do rather literal noir with no superpowers or the like, Iron Man really wouldn't fit (similar to 1602).

I'm really looking forward to the Van Lente X-Men Noir mini; he's becoming one of my favourite writers.

I beg to differ, this discussion was orginally started on Advanced Iron .Org,and I got six replies from members of that fansite it was positive in scope.

P.S.: anymore takers

Sign me up. Tony could totally use the era's tech to cobble together some armour.

Back when Marvel Zombies first came out, some of us over on the Newsarama boards were talking about what DC could do that would be a nice play on words with DC history. I proposed something called "DC Bullets" which would have been a kind of gangster story featuring the Superman family; the Batman family; the Marvel Family; etc.

Well, DC's missed the boat on that one now; if they tried it, it would just seem like a copy of what Marvel's doing.

Everyone has their different opinions. You could probably go to another board and get banned for suggesting such things. ;)

I have news Iron Man Noir is out I have two out of four issues, and its fantastic read so far I'll keep everybody posted as I review them without spoilers so that we can discuss them in context.

I think that they should take Tony's adventure magazine and make that as a crossover piece to the Marvel noir line, and I would like to see props, action figures from the stories from the other books.

That's all for now

Haven't had any interest in the Marvel Noir line...Treker would you care to elaborate on your DC Bullets idea? It reminds me of a gangster take on Alan Moore's abandoned "Twilight of the Superheroes" story. I'd be more interested in that...

I think a 30s set Iron Man could be really cool. Something like The Rocketeer. But with a big clunky suit, instead of a jetpack. Something Sky Captain-esque, maybe.

Tony Stark was based loosely on Howard Hughes, who inspired Tony's father's name, and Hughes appears in The Rocketeer (he's meant to have designed the jetpack, IIRC). I've always thought that Stark was physically based on Errol Flynn, who was a big star in that era (and on whom the villain in The Rocketeer was based). Who better to model the TS of this tale on?

The story could be re-told to have Stark captured by Nazis and forced to build a suit, using partly his technology and partly theirs. I mean, originally he was captured by Vietcong, the movie had Afghan terrorists. Why not the 20th Century's ultimate big bad?

Admittedly, this wouldn't be pure Noir (whereas maybe a 30s set Daredevil would be) but it would be a good Elseworlds tale. I hadn't heard of this series before, but I'd be keen to check it out.

Well I quite agree with the opinions stated, but until I read the next thrilling chapter stay tuned for more reviews eventually Marvel might do either a HC of the entire Mavel noir or Trade Paperback including Mr.Stark, and his adventures.

I think the first batch of Noir tales have been collected in TPB so I would think that the Iron Man one will be collected later this year or early next.

Yes Hughes was implied as the designer of the jet pack in the Rocketeer...it's been an awfully long time since I've seen the film but think he tells Cliff that he wants it back but forget why.

Well issue#3,was action packed to say the least, and there are a few surprises in store for the conclusion issue, but again life comes a knocking, and I have concentrate on finding work or getting the funds to launch my business either online or brick, and mortar with me living above the shop.
Sorry got off a tangent there I'm tired of not geting work, and had only three interviews so far,but no takers I met with my business coach today, and he thinks he can have me talk with a mentor that will hopefully help secure a grant of $100,000 to get it started, but he wants me to still find work.
Good night

Thanks AY,and CD for the votes of Confidence did Marvel ever do a Thor Noir series as well, because I know of Iron Man,Spiderman, and XMen if even though that might be issued before the movie I think as to Capt.America in the thirties wouldn't work because he's a hero from the forties.
Any thoughts
