A very true point... but then again, he could do just that at any point, and if it comes to the point where you KNOW that survivability is not a likely option, you may as well act to try and save yourself anyway. Like I said... at the end of the day, you KNOW that the suspect will be dead or arrested. But YOU want to get home to your wife, children, or whatever. You have a reason to act.

Okay, my first response is sadness at this poor man's terribly twisted worldview and clearly deeply troubled psyche. That's pretty depressing, and I'm sorry to hear they had to shoot and that all possibility of his getting the help he needs are lost.

My second response, I'm sorry to say, is...Froggies. Froggies?!! .

Please don't think I'm making light of such a tragic event, but..."for the froggies!!" is possibly one of the saddest rallying calls ever. It shows how terribly damaged he was, and it's a shame no-one caught the fact of his vulnerabilities sooner.

If I'm in a hostage situation I'd want the professionals to handle it. Not some hothead who thinks he knows better than people who have trained their whole lives to take down the hostage taker.
