Noting the tragedy of the event or being unable or unwilling to find humour in it isn't being 'overly sensitive', and implying that those who can are heartless monsters isn't being 'overly sensitive' either: it's being a dick.

I lost someone I cared about very much recently and she wasn't much older than this kid. It's a sore subject for me. I don't like it when young people die.

Everything is a sore subject for someone. If you laugh at it, you can bet there are those who not only don't find it funny, but who actually find it hurtful for various personal reasons. Maybe we should just ban jokes altogether to be on the safe side?

Make all the jokes about Twilight and ooh, he died seeing Eclipse. It's hilarious. But the fact of the matter is that kid was someone's son, maybe someone's brother. And today those family members are grieving.

Yeah, and in the presence of those family members, folks here wouldn't be cracking jokes. Y'know why? Because they're not dicks.

Had this also been about the death of some smoking hot 20-something I'm sure the reaction in this thread would be very different.

I find it interesting that my post is at the center of the controversy. It happens so rarely. As witnessed from my post it is possible to bash Twilight and feel sorry for the deceased at the same time!
