...And I was thinking, Space Engineers might actually provide a good way for people who don't have a lot of knowledge of 3D rendering and modeling to create ultra-low budget fan films. The developers of Space Engineers have included a Replay tool in a recent update that allows you to construct elaborate scenes with multiple characters and/or ships. There are also a number of chroma key green and blue blocks and skyboxes available on the Steam Workshop, as well as various Star Trek-themed blueprints and mods.
Now, obviously, you're not going to create a fan film of the same quality as something like one of the Avalon Universe films, but if you're just trying to throw something together for fun, this might be a good option for you.
