I've never liked boxing. Never saw how anyone could ever see it as the "sweet science". Now, I loved "Rocky" and think "Raging Bull" is one of the greatest films of all time... but I never liked boxing. Still don't. It's long been a sport so rife with corruption and brutality, that it amazes me it still can stand, crumbling as it is.
Then I read articles like this one on the "Thrilla in Manilla". You know... I still don't like boxing, but that article is so well-written, that even I have to grudgingly admit there is a raw beauty in the sport. It can so bring out feats of stamina and shocking strength. And it made me appreciate all the more how much a man can do when he's faced with a worthy opponent who brings out the best in him.
