Main Computer Core Storage...

Captain
At times whenever Seven, Janeway, Harry...ect states that we have downloaded 17 gigaquads of information on this or that nubula, just how much information is that. I know how much data a gigabyte contains, how does it compair to 17 gigaquads??

Nobody knows what a "quad" is, it's never defined. That's the point - that way, it's never dated.

I've often wondered how much data storage space they have. You have to figure that they are down loading a ton of information.

It's a unit of measure analogous to a gazillion samolians; i.e., Toontown currency. See Roger Rabbit.

Given the technology at their disposal I would say that 'vast amount of memory' would be an accurate term.
They can manipulate subspace fields for warp travel create or disperse various anomalies ... you'd think they'd find a way to compress the stored data to leave more room.
Then again ... I wouldn't be surprised if the computer memory/storage capability can be expanded indefinitely (not through physical means) ... but more along utilizing new methods of compression and storage. Upgrade of existing tech as time passes is also something to be taken into consideration.

Voyager was just an awesome supership, that's all.

and, it had that bioneural circuitry whatsit stuff. So it was kinda...alive. and malleable.

Hardly a supership.
The tech at the Federations disposal is able to acomplish such tasks and expansion of space/memory can be essentially done in indefinite terms over time as technology evolves.
Each ship does have it's own crew which is made up of scientific minds, engineers and whatnot.
The EMH's program alone (after going through hefty amount of stabilizations/modifications) has been said to be capable of expanding indefinitely ... so I don't see the reason why this couldn't be done with the computer core/memory.

The bio-neural circutry on the other hand was specifically utilized to increase computer response times and overall speed of the computer.
I wouldn't be surprised if similar tech-spur happened for the computer memory which essentially enabled SF to store much larger amounts of data in comparison to the Enterprise-D for example.

Pff. Voyager is so a supership. Infact, it's a super-duper-chuck-norris-jack-bower-awesome-super-ninja-ship.
