magicJack

So here's the skinny from someone who has one. First off, you need an internet connection of at least .7 MB or faster. If it's 512K, it's not fast enough. At .7 MB, you won't want to be doing a whole lot of online work while talking on the phone.

You don't really have the option of transferring your old number over to magicJack. In fact, it will generate a new one for you in the local area you designate. The closest local area to me is Madison, so I have a Madison local magicJack number.

We don't make a ton of long distance calls, so it's pretty easy to quickly hook the magicJack into the phone before making a call.

We love it, and it works just fine.

My wife uses it over a Sprint wireless broadband connection, no less, and it works just fine. You just don't want anyone to be surfing the Internet while you're on the phone... unless you have a fatter pipe, like a 4MB+ cable connection.
