MacGyver returns!

Well, not really. What is this going to be? A short film, blatantly promoting Mercedes?

I'll watch that video at home, work filters doh!

I'm doing a complete MacGyver viewing for the first time and just finished season 6 last night so this thread caught my attention.

That video isn't viewable in the US.

I found another though:

I'm not sure how that ad sells a car really.
A few nice mentions I suppose, "We really miss you at the agency"
Him unfolding the paper clip for what would be the start of a Macgyver-ism I suppose.

Gotta think about college for the grand kids!

Seriously, be nice if he did come back for some kind of series... he's likeable enough.

That line "We still talk about you 'round the agency" strikes me as odd. "Agency?" Sure, in the first season, MacGyver worked for a government intelligence organization, but that was the DXS, the Department of External Services, so I'd think they'd call it "the department" rather than "the agency." And of course Mac spent the remaining six seasons of the series, and is better remembered, as a troubleshooter for the philanthropic Phoenix Foundation. So even if the DXS was called an "agency," it seems odd to focus on that brief phase of his career.

Yeah well. I also don't think MacGyver would end up as a janitor or whatever he is supposed to be. Professor at university or some leading position at the Phoenix Foundation would have been my guess.

^ Looks like he's a repair man who runs his own business called Mac's. Doesn't seem unusual since he's always struck me as someone who drifted from one odd job to the next. When Pete found him, he was driving a cab for a friend.

^^^
Jack Dalton, that was the friend. He'd show up numerous times over the seasons.
I'm surprised at just how much of a semi-recurring character Penny(Teri Hatcher) turned out to be. Through 6 seasons she's shown up at least once a year.

Is that supposed to be Donald Rumsfeld he's talking to at the beginning of the trailer? The actor looks a lot like Rumsfeld, and MacGyver calls him "Don" ...

That seems unlikely. Rumsfeld was in the private sector from 1977-2000, and MacGyver's tenure in the DXS was from 1979-86, followed by six years of service to the Phoenix Foundation ending in 1992. It's unclear what he did thereafter, but I doubt he would've gone back to intelligence work. And the only "agency" Rumsfeld ever belonged to was the Office of Economic Opportunity, where he served during the Nixon administration between his tenure in the House of Representatives and his appointment as ambassador to NATO.

I think MacGyver's had a few too many of those ice cream cones he was always eating in the credits.

Always the same flavor.

Not sure of any health issues he has, but when he guest starred on Legal Affairs last year he definitely had gained some weight. I think it's just age catching up with him.

Is he still on that show occasionally? I gave up on it after the first season.
