Cheap ass plastic parts break easily not only on Macs, I've seen a fair share of broken PC laptops as well.
As for the rest, well my IBM XT doesn't have any cracks, no rust either, original 20 MB HDD is still working, same with the 360Kb 5.25" floppy drive and the radioactive green on black MDA screen still works like a charm, they certainly don't build them like they used to.
