Mac/iTunes question

I have a tech question, and I'm not sure which category this really falls into. A few months ago I upgraded to a Mac laptop to replace my old machine, and since then have gotten more familiar with iTunes. I have this one CD that I'd like to copy all the tracks from, but it seems to get hung up on the very last track even though there's only about 11 seconds of it left.

The only thing I can guess is that this is due to wear on the CD, and I'd appreciate any advice on how to solve the problem. Most of my CDs have wear on them, and a few even have scratches, and yet I've never had this sort of copying problem.

How does the CD play in regular CD player?

have you tried making a copy of the CD then ripping from the copy?

Another thing to try would be to simply rip the last track to confirm it is the problem.

Well, I had thought about copying the file from my old system, which didn't have a trouble copying it into Windows. However, as I used Windows Media Player on my old PC, all of those files are in a Windows format and may not be compatible with the Mac. I don't presently have a way of running a Windows emulator on the laptop.

As far as playing the CD regularly, there's some minor skipping at the very end of the track due to the wear. The thing is, I've got albums that are at least as worn, and perhaps have a worse scratch than exists on this one, and I had no problem copying them.

iTunes > Preferences (CMD+,) > General > Import Settings > Use error correction when reading audio CDs.

Maybe that might help.

If not you could also try iTunes on the Windows side, see if your Windows PC has a better CD/DVD drive.

They might be also some converter software around, that might be able to convert your WMP ripped music into iTunes readable content.

Have you tried any of the CD/DVD polishing kits available at many music retailers? Reestablishing a smooth surface on the bottom of the CD might make it possible for the laser to focus on the reflective layer in the CD.

Is the label of the CD worn or otherwise damaged near the edge? On pressed CDs the data bearing reflective layer is MUCH closer to the THIN lacquer coating under the label and could oxidize (thus become unreadable) if air or moisture penetrates part of the lacquer coating.

I did try turning that option on in iTunes, and it didn't work. I have given some thought to the repair kits though, even though I've never used one and am inexperienced at fixing CDs.
