M.A.S.K. is returning...

Okay, okay not what a lot of you guys are thinking but does anyone remember this show from the early 90s, late 80s? Basically it was Transformers light without the talking robots but with the changing vehicles. Like a motorcycle turning into a helicopter.

Apparently Hasbro is starting to release MASK back as part of a GI Joe line. I saw Matt Tracker a couple days ago.

Very interesting.

Hounded again and again by fans, Hasbro has said it's a one time thing. A tribute. Not a test. Don't get our hopes up for more new MASK stuff. Which is too bad.

Too bad, and the line could fit so easily into their current GI-Joe set up too. Heck, they could update Matt Tracker's Camaro into the new Concept Camaro. Borrow some tooling from the Transformers line and you could have some interesting things. At minimum you'd need the big Semi, the Camaro, and the motorcycle/chopper. And I can't recall what the bad guys drove, but maybe a couple counterpart vehiclesa and you'd be all set.

Easy subline really, maybe 6 or 7 figures and like 5 vehicles. (a couple could be 'repainted' into other vehicles for the good guys or bad guys)

Its funny I am always at a loss with all the interest in Transformers and GI Joe. But I very fondly remember M.A.S.K!

Of course, I used to love this show!
And about 8 months ago I got the first (of two) DVD boxsets of it, featuring 38 episodes. And it only cost be about £8 too

Although I only made it up to about 16 episodes before I got bored of it, and haven't watched any more since
I had the same feeling when watching the Thundercats DVD I got; at first its great to see a show you loved & haven't seen since you were a kid, but that soon wears off and its not as much fun as an adult watching it.
The episodes become very repetitive.

Plus those Burbil things in Thundercats make Jar Jar Binks look like fucking Shaft

Although each ep of MASK is worth it for the "Select for the best MASK agents for this mission" montage! :D
That computer sure loves Bruce Sato

With the Tracker figure being a sought after item, I wouldn't be surprised to see Hasbro maybe loosening up the ropes a little more. They could make a killing.

Wow, I'd forgotten all about those. But hearing that music again gives me a strong sense of nostalgia. I always liked that music, though hearing it now, I find it's pretty repetitive.

Dang, I'm gonna have that music stuck in my head all night now... just the same six bars over and over and over...

I've become convinced that my local Tesco's supermarket uses a riff on that melody for the music it plays in its wine aisle. It's quite bizarre.

This was my absolute favorite toy as a kid. I don't know why I ever got rid of it. Must of been at that "I am too old for this stuff" age.

Back To The Future was and still is my favorite movie. It created a lifetime love of 1950s. So having a toy of a '57 Chevy was great. I also loved the tank it turned into.

Looking back I think I know why M.A.S.K. appealed to me more than GI Joe or Transformers which inspired it. I was closer to the Superhero genre. Which was always more of my thing than robots and military men. Normal guys using high-tech gadgets to fight crime....wearing well... MASKS!

This premise could work great as a comic book. I know there was one when they show first hit. Licensed comics on 80s cartoons are big thing right now.

I like the jet that turned into a copter or vise-versa (Switchblade?). I had that, the motorcycle submarine sidecar (piranha), the green copter cycle, the black sportscar that became a hovercraft (a vette?), the red villain cycle, some later 4-wheel buggy with a hologram guy and some mail-in checkpoint outpost thing.

Plus a two pack of Hondo (the first version, not the one in the picture above) and Matt Trakker (RHINO semi version).

I preferred Star Wars/80's GI JOE scaled stuff...so my time with MASK was short-lived.
