Lucretia = "Borg"-ier?

The Borg Queen

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
We know that Picard was designated as Locutus of Borg as he was intended to be the, uh... spokesdrone for the Collective, and "Locutus" is Latin for something like that.

Should Queenie have introduced herself as Lucrezia of Borg both as a nod to Picard's "Locutus" and also as a nod to the real Lucrezia Borgia?

Y'know, for lulz and stuff.

{Edit} I spelled her name wrong in the thread title (according to Wikipedia), could a mod please change it for me please?

Huh? What does the name Lucrezia have to do with the name Locutus (which means "He Who Has Spoken," approximately)? Lucretia (in whatever spelling) is the feminine form of the Latin name Lucretius, meaning "rich" or "successful," and comes from the Latin word for profit (as in "lucrative" and "filthy lucre"). The only connection the names have is a vague phonetic similarity, and I don't see why the Borg Queen would be prone to making puns, or to giving herself a name whose meaning is better suited to a Ferengi.

If they did name her Lucrecia then she'd have to be African American...Or they could have named her
Lurecia
Lapreshia
Lateesha
Laveesha
Lapeesha
Lameesha
The possibilities are endless and lame. Kinda like how chinese people name their children by tossing a bunch of pots and pans up and listening for the sound they make when they land...Ping, Pang, Ding, Dong...

Um... Lucrezia isn't an African-American name, it's an Italian one.

And so what if it is a pun? The Borg chose a word for Picard's drone that was from a now-defunct language, surely that in itself could be considered a pun of sorts. Anyone who wasn't familiar with Latin probably would have accepted the phonetic similarities between Locutus and Lucrezia at face value.

And Queenie did try to seduce Data to win his allegiance... ;)

Or a modern Italian variant of the Latin name Lucretia.

That's kind of like saying there's a phonetic similarity between "Borg" and "Bernie." Or between "enterprise" and "intercourse." It's a vague and totally meaningless similarity. And the name "Locutus" -- "He who has spoken" -- was obviously chosen on the basis of its meaning, not its sound. That's not a pun, because it's using the meaning directly rather than subverting or modifying it. There is no reason why the Queen would want to refer to herself by a name that means "rich," unless she's trying to appeal to the Ferengi, in which case she'd use a name in the Ferengi language, not Latin or a descendant thereof.

Besides, why would the Queen give herself a name at all? It's redundant. Locutus was given a name because he was meant to serve as a spokesperson in interactions with an authority-driven culture. But the Queen already has a designation. She's the Queen. That's her role. Why would she need some other name, especially one that's a really, really bad pun?

And why would any writer think it was a good idea to use such a lame pun for a character who's supposed to be extremely serious and scary? That's like putting a red rubber nose on Dracula.

I never studied Latin, so I never made the connection with Locutus' name. (Though, now that I think of it, it does make sense... the word "elocution.")

In that case, do you happen to know of any meaning behind Peter David's character Vastator in Vendetta?

The Borg Queen has absolutely no reason to give herself a name. She expressed her designation just fine in First Contact: "I am the Borg."
