In partnership with Steam, LucasArts has announced the first wave of classic titles from its library that will be available for digital distribution beginning on Wednesday, July 8. CEO Darrell Rodriguez says "this is just the beginning" for LucasArts' classics.

The games are:

  • LOOM
  • The Dig
  • Star Wars: Starfighter
  • Star Wars: Republic Commando
  • Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
  • Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade: The Game
  • Armed and Dangerous
  • Star Wars Battlefront II
  • LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures
  • Thrillville: Off the Rails

Note that unlike The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition, which is confirmed for release on July 15, these are not remakes, enhanced ports, etc. However, LucasArts says that depending on the sales of The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition, remakes of other classic titles are a definite possibility.

  • Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
:eek::eek::eek:

Though I'm less impressed then I should be as I still have copies of most of my old LA adventure games anyway. I wonder if they've done any work on them though, such as scaling and the like They must have done something if only to get them to run properly in modern Windows. And if not, will the Steam files will be compatible with ScummVM (probably not).

Re: LucasArts Opens the Vault: Classic Games on Steam, July 8 (THE DIG

I presume that, like other classic titles on Steam, the LucasArts games will come with a pre-configured DOSbox.

[prays] please release the X-Wing series, please release the X-Wing series [/prays]

The day that they release X-Wing: Alliance on Steam is the first day of the three month period in which neither friend nor co-worker will see me.

Re: LucasArts Opens the Vault: Classic Games on Steam, July 8 (THE DIG

This is great news, I have been playing through the Tell Tale games Sam & Max Season 2 adventures lately and they made me nostalgic for some older point and click classics.

Steam rules.

Re: LucasArts Opens the Vault: Classic Games on Steam, July 8 (THE DIG

Cool. I've been wanting to check out "The Dig", in particular, for a long time now. I also wouldn't mind revisiting the Indy 4 I really liked ;).

Re: LucasArts Opens the Vault: Classic Games on Steam, July 8 (THE DIG

Damn, they need a econ mod for x-wing alliance.

Re: LucasArts Opens the Vault: Classic Games on Steam, July 8 (THE DIG

Yes! I'll finally get to play Fate of Atlantis. :D

I'm hoping they'll add Full Throttle and Grim Fandango to the list.

The Dig has a great soundtrack and atmosphere... and some of the most ridiculous puzzles ever.

Re: LucasArts Opens the Vault: Classic Games on Steam, July 8 (THE DIG

That's the problem with later LA adventure games. They're just crazy with the inane puzzles.

Re: LucasArts Opens the Vault: Classic Games on Steam, July 8 (THE DIG

kinda like king's quest puzzles.

Re: LucasArts Opens the Vault: Classic Games on Steam, July 8 (THE DIG

I'd like to see a port of Droidworks for XP or something. I liked that game as a kid.

Re: LucasArts Opens the Vault: Classic Games on Steam, July 8 (THE DIG

Disappointing that they are using Steam rather than www.gog.com

Obviously they are not prepared to go along with their no-DRM policy.

Re: LucasArts Opens the Vault: Classic Games on Steam, July 8 (THE DIG

LucasArts' Twitter is now reporting that the downloads DO NOT use ScummVM or DOSBox, but rather contain self-running executables for Windows.

No DRM, then, I think.

Re: LucasArts Opens the Vault: Classic Games on Steam, July 8 (THE DIG

Well, Steam itself is DRM really.

I still haven't figured out a way to start Steam in offline mode without going online first, although I guess I might be missing something.

Games that are less than a year old are considered "classic" now?

Obviously Lucasarts are bringing their entire catalog to Steam and they choose to focus on the older games that are no longer in print for the press release since people have been asking for them to be re-released for some time.

Re: LucasArts Opens the Vault: Classic Games on Steam, July 8 (THE DIG

This is such great news i'm actually making a little "yes!" gesture at my screen. I've been a big fan of companies re-releasing oldies on online distribution services, and was hoping Lucasarts would get onboard eventually.

Fate of Atlantis is a classic and Loom, while very short and easy, is a captivating fairytale. I never played The Dig, and I hear it was below par, but i'm still looking forward to giving it a try.
