Lucas states that the world ends in 2012

I read in a recent interview with Seth Rogan that George Lucas is convinced that the world is going to end in 2012 and that Lucas spent a considerable amount of time trying to convince Rogan of this during a talk that they had. Now I don't know anything about Mayan prophesy, but when I read that a cold chill crawled up my spine. Lucas's conviction dovetails ominously with a dark rumour being whispered by Lucasfilm insiders that December 21, 2012 is the release date for the 3d remastered special edition of the Star Wars Holiday Special. I can feel my sanity beginning to slip away at just the thought of it.

Seriously though, I think Lucas is losing his grip on reality.

yeah right...

If you truly believe that, then maybe Lucas isn't the only one losing his grip on reality ;)

Yeah, that's been debunked. His daughter said he was screwing with Rogan, and his PR person went nuts on it:

“He was not serious when he talked about the end of the world in 2012 but he is an adamant believer that the world is flat, that Stonehenge was built by aliens, and that the sun revolves around the Earth,” Hale said. “These are among the many subjects he commonly discusses at length with Elvis, who he’s going to digitally insert into Indy 5 along with a roster of famous dead actors.”

^That is what PR people do for a living. Among their duties, covering for crazy clients is a top priority. All those other beliefs are enough to call him "insane in the membrane". Remember this is the guy who ruined 3 of the best ever SF&F films with their prequels... midichlorians anyone?

You may want to recalibrate your sarcasm detector.

The is nothing to 'recalibrate'. I have been there and seen that for myself.:vulcan: Celebrities are people; some normal, some crazy and some in-between. The main difference between celebrities and ordinary people is that ordinary people don't pay others to constantly make them look good. Celebrities often get caught up in their own hype.

I meant she was being sarcastic when she said Lucas was a flat earther etc.

Once again, please refer to my earlier post which states that is it her JOB, as spin doctor, to make her BOSS look good... no matter what he said.

I know what her job is. You said "All those other beliefs are enough to call him "insane in the membrane"."

It wouldn't surprise me if Lucas really thought that the 2012 doomsday was a real threat because there are quite a few other people out there that think the same thing. I probably shouldn't implied that he was going insane because of it. If his PR people are saying that he was only playing a joke on Rogen then there is no way to know what he truly believes. It may have been Lucas attempting to be funny, or he might truly believe in the prophesy (as many others do) and was embarrassed when it became public and switched his minions into damage control mode.

As for the part about the Star Wars Holiday Special - that was my attempt at a joke and should not be taken seriously. There is no evidence that if that abomination is ever re-released that it would be capable of ending life as we know it or driving people crazy.

Whether or not Lucas was kidding in this instance, it's been clear that he's nuttier than a fruit cake since he announced the subtitle for episode 2.

Only a madman with visions of a dark future would start a story at episode four. ;)

C'mon, the guy is still making movies and TV shows that won't be out until 2012 or later. I know he made the prequels so obviously he must be nuts in some of your eyes, because that's flawless logic, but you really need to work on your recognition of jokes and sarcasm. He was clearly kidding, as was his publicist. I can't believe this is even a story.

I believe it because some people are that deranged to believe this story.

It's confirmation bias. If something negative is reported about Lucas, it "must" be true. If some positive is reported than it "must" be false. People's heads are so far up their own asses about him.
