Lt. Hawk Confirmed!!!!

In what way was he 'intended'? Were there deleted scenes? Or just a character sheet that mentions it, with no intention to put it on screen?

Wasn't there a line in the script about a (male) partner or something?

"Rules of Acquisition" got there first anyway.

That scene where he says "Aye sir" and sets a course for Earth comes across in a whole new light now.

And who cares anyway if a character that had two lines of dialogue is gay or not.

On the other hand, he was assimilated by the Borg. Does that mean he passed down that part of his individuality into the Borg Collective? Are the Borg gay now? I'm sure that someone will start a thread about that sooner or later ...

They must have assimilated millions of gay people over the centuries.

I know. I was joking.

I'm just so sick of all those gay threads. I mean, is it really that important if someone's gay or not? Do we really need characters on a show set in 23rd/24th century to talk about their sexual orientation? I don't care if someone's gay or not in the real world, and I couldn't care less if it's a fictional character we're talking about!

I have no problem with characters "coming out", but I think making threads on it a decade later is pretty damn silly.

That was pretty much Gene Roddenberry's view on it: a non-issue.

Normally it was only a "non-issue" because they avoided it like the plague, so that explanation doesn't wash for me.

There are two exceptions that come to mind, both DS9 episodes: "Rejoined", in which everyone is confused as to why Jadzia and Lenara can't continue their relationship. Gender is not seen as an issue. The other is "Rules of Acquisition", when Dax realises Pel loves Quark, but doesn't know she's a female. She encourages "him" to persue a relationship with Quark.

I think it's wonderful that you could care less if someone is gay or not in the real world. However, I think it is important to have an out character. No, I don't think we need to have an entire arc for a gay character, but let's stop hiding it. It should be a non-issue so lets just have a character with some casual references indicating as such. That makes it a non-issue.

That is just fine and dandy enough to be posted and discussed in a thread on the boards!! Oh wait, it already has been in SEVERAL. Let's stick to the OP as it was started. The point is that Neal McDonough was stated as saying that Hawke was gay and he made no such remark.:p;)

Pretty fitting that Guinan brought it up. She sees ALL!

Brainfart: What if Lt. Hawk was General Hawk's descendant?
