lovin THUNDARR

I read that Jack Kirby designed the characters.

Was he the guy who did Heavy Metal?

Dear God, protect us from the heathens! Heavy Metal was a collaboration of artists who were regular contributors to the magazine of the same name.

Jack Kirby was one of the "grand old men" of comics, having sat right there with Stan Lee helping to create characters you know and love today. After a slight(life-long) difference of opinion with Stan the Man, Kirby went to DC, where he created his famous "Fourth World" titles as an alternative to accepted DC canon. Although dead for many years now, his ideas lived on, including OMAC and the New Gods, Darkseid and his minions, Big Barda, New Genesis, etc. Try Wikipedia for more detailed info-the guy really was a founding force in comic books.:techman:

And, yes, I believe Kirby did create Thundarr. Among other things.

Ok, cool. I didn't know about all that, sorry.

There were a couple of somewhat dark Superfriends episodes, Challenge of the Superfriends to be exact. In one the Legion of Doom gains control over an army of zombies. In another the Earth and humanity are destroyed by one of Lex Luthor's plans and alien travelers reverse time and undo it, since the Superfriends (and all humanity) were dead.

Which are funny, considering they would let anyone even punch each other on the show.

I think I remember those.

The Smurfs had my favorite cartoon zombie episode. G'nap G'nap.

Gil Kane, another comics great, also had a hand in Thundarr.

Later on, I maintained the fan-fic-y conceit that Thundarr's post-apocalyptic Earth had been 'Second Earth' to the Thundercats' 'Third Earth', and that perhaps Thundarr had been an early foe of Mumm-Ra's--maybe even being the one that initially 'slew' him, forcing him to use the tomb to regenerate.

Thundarr ruled!! I liked it better than He-Man, Herculoids, or Blackstar. Like the animated Star trek, the artwork could have been better but a lot of the animation in the 80s kind of suffered. My favorite was an episode called "Island of the Body Snatchers" where Circe the witch switched bodies with Ariel. Ariel in Circe's body was trying to convince Thundarr that she was Ariel getting nowhere and finally cut loose into him. Thundarr's reply: "Your tongue's as sharp as Ariel's! That much is for certain!" I always got a kick out of OOkla's comic relief, too.

So was Ariel black, latina, middle eastern, asian...mixed? I was never sure. It doesn't matter.

The opening narration..."...with his fabulous sun sword"....faaabulous!! :p

The ruins of MANHAT! 2,000 years later, would anything be standing?
