Love or hate Disney Wars they’ve atleast given Vader his balls back.

So post episode III Lucas retconned Vader into a little bitch, in the Force Unleashed (canon) he was defeated by his own apprentice and there was the Vader book that made it clear the suit reduced his power to about a third of what it would’ve otherwise been.

In Disney Wars he’s badass and to be feared again, first there was the corridor scene in R1 then there’s the entirety of Obi Wan, it’s good to see in my opinion.

Any thoughts?

Never liked Vader, never thought of him as a bad and. Disney, like all other iterations, is hit and miss.

Rogue One Vader sucked.

Kenobi Vader is ok.

Maybe he got one ball back.

I’d say Vader got a lot more retconned past TESB. He was a badass in the first two movies. Every iteration of Anakin/Vader complicated, yes, but also lessened him in some way. But that started well before Disney bought LFL or ROTS.

..which was not necessary to show a "badass" Vader. In Star Wars and TESB, he was a dominating, evil presence (his role) long before igniting a lightsaber in either film.

Hope it lasts, as I can see Disney/LFL creating some series or movie cameo where Vader is sobbing behind the mask, wondering why he's so ineffectual when it comes to fighting Kenobi, or being as evil as Palpatine.

Never liked Vader,....
Wow.
I've been a fan of Star Wars since the 80s and I've never seen anyone say this. First time for anything I guess.

And I agree with the OP. For me there was no shades of gray with Vader. I don't care what his reasons are for what he does because every one has a reason for their actions. He's still a bad guy. Period. Stop trying to backpaddle and just embrace it.

Oh, I always saw him as a villain. Just not badass or cool or whatever.

I understand. That last part of my post was directed towards Lucas and his attempts to soften characters years after the fact. Eg: Vader, Han Solo

That comes from getting older. Treating villains as just villains is, well, not enjoyable.

Considering how insanely popular the OT was, the numerous people that still dress up like Vader and the major backlash Lucas got when he tried to rewrite Star Wars history, I'd say that opinion is in the low minority. Star Wars at its core was good vs evil and that's what made the movies work. I'm glad to see that Disney realizes this and moved Vader back to what he was: a ruthless cold blooded killer without remorse who will do whatever it takes to achieve his goal.

If you want basics it's fine.

Lucas stated purpose was to explore how a good man becomes bad. I don't care if it's a minority view because that's what Lucas wanted.

I always liked the cold Vader of the original movies. The guy who quietly chokes one who fails even as he's promoting his subordinate to replace him. The one who does just enough to win or flings crates at one who is beneath him in a duel. Sure he's got a rage but he wasn't indiscriminate. So scenes like Rogue One didn't do much for me, I prefer the guy who sends in the fodder and then comes in afterward to cleanup.

You see no one as cool so that's not surprising.

I envision Colm Feore’s Lord Marshall under the Vader mask.

I don't really see the importance of Anakin having his "balls". To me, he is more complicated and interesting than just a one-dimensional ruthless villain.

Agreed that Obi returned Vader as a ruthless person that would choke/step on various randos to prove a point.
But I prefer Maul or Thrawn in a villian category. With Vader they never really shown me a good reason why he turned to the dark side. Why he is evil. Prequels showed me a good but flawed person who wouldn't go to the dark side willingly.. Even if they had cookies..

Huh?

As much as I hate the prequels I thought showing why Anakin went dark was one thing they got right. Getting his first taste when he avenges his mother. Driven to desperation out of fear of losing Padme. Having Obiwan’s expectations of him projected onto him and not letting him just be a kid. The enticing dogma that a brutal controlling empire will protect more people than the chaos of freedom.

This doesn’t conflict with the badass we saw in the OT.

Yeah. My thoughts....as far as I'm concerned the only thing that is canon is stuff that is shown or mentioned in live action. So Vader is not a little bitch in my eyes due to this fact....lmao

I am not interested in Anakin being the "badass" in the Vader suit. I don't think this should be the culmination of his character arc. And I find it rather sad that this is how many Star Wars fans would solely prefer him to be.
