Love (Netflix romantic dramedy)

Anybody watch this? I just finished it. It's from the Judd Aptow camp and it starts Gillian Jacobs from Community. It ended up being a LOT more drama than comedy, but by the end of it I was totally addicted and drawn into the characters. I went on a damn emotional roller coaster for those last few episodes :wah:

You say I love you too much,” protests Paul Rust’s Gus, mid break up, to his girlfriend, who has just made him aware of her infidelities. It’s his fault of course. He is, in her words, ‘fake nice’. Meanwhile, across town, Gillain Jacobs’ Mickey, enraged, has just followed her man-child boyfriend out onto the street. Five minutes ago they were in bed. Now, he wants to go clothes shopping with his mom, and she’s yelling at the both of them in her underwear. As both relationships meet their bittersweet end, Netflix’s new romantic comedy series Love, begins.

I am loving The Love Series:):luvlove:

For the most part, I found Mickey to be unsympathetic in the way she treated other people particularly Gus. I was totally on Gus' side... until he fucked the Canadian actress THE NIGHT AFTER he fucked Mickey. What the hell was that?! Also, I thought the actress was actually a much better person for him and I was disappointed when she screwed him over at the end.
Bertie, the Australian roommate, is my official number one new celebrity crush :adore:
Monday night's At Midnight guest-starred the three main characters from Love!

I have not read the thread.

I'm on episode 9. The whole thing is getting really unnerving. REALLY fucking unnerving.

Micky got ruined by suddenly the show being reality with all the AA shit, then she was unbearable and now she's super sympathetic (to me) because it's all spinning out of control and everything has SWITCHED PLACES. Gus is the cool guy and she's a dysfunctional headcase. I feel bad.

Also I will say this for public consumption: the Magic Castle is the most unsexy piece of shit ever. I have known two people IRL who were "in" the Magic Castle and they were both wankers and also acted like being in the Magic Castle was something everyone else should be super impressed with. Gus had a Magic Castle pin indicating he belonged in some way to the Magic Castle. This was the most fail thing ever and frankly I think the show jumped the proverbial shark when they did that to previous dorky but nice Gus.

If I was in a car with a guy and he smugly revealed to me that his special date surprise was that we were going to the Magic Castle I would wait till we hit a red light and open the door and run.

Okay. Off to finish the series.

Finished it.

It kind of flipped around ep 5 into something else.

I didn't like the aus roomate but I'll watch the shorts because she does look cute in those.

If Bertie outshone Mickie, then it would have been a completely different story, especially if Berty continued to be nonplussed by Guss' wiry little sickening stick figure body.

She was glowing awesomeness at half power just to give Gillian a fighting chance.

By the end of it they all annoyed me.

I was LOL at the "in a year" speech which of course would fail and failed immediately

The whole addict element just kind of ruined it for me, she was nicely screwed up without taking it to another level. It got serious and then it got draggy. The first eps were great.

Bertie is going to hook up the big guy since she likes that shape of man (can't remember the word she used), I think they will be warm and amusing together. No shrieking.

Gillian was really really really great in this though, the acting all round made it shine. I just think it should have stayed more of a comedy.

I'm thinking that this was a movie script Judd couldn't get made, so he subdivided it into 13 x 24 minutes blocks of time.

I found the first episode terribly grating. Shrill, shouting, excessively obscene characters saying and doing things I couldn't care less about.

The beginning of the second episode didn't help matters much either with Jacobs' character going nose-to-nose with the convenience store owner.

But as soon as the pair got in the car and began talking, the mood shifted for the better and by the end of the third episode I found myself oddly invested in them.

I've never seen such a quick turnaround in tone. I was very tempted to simply drop the show following the first episode, but I feel I might be glad I decided to give the wondrous and lovely Jacobs another 3 minutes.

Gus let himself be bullied by 12 year old to her own detriment.

People who are super passive sometimes hide a lot of rage. And even if they don't, bleh.
