LOST = kids show THE ODYSSEY (spoilers for two different TV shows)

Since the new season started, I can't help but notice how closely the series overall resembles a kids show I used to watch called The Odyssey. The Odyssey was about a boy named Jay who falls from a treehouse and hits his head on a rock. He falls into a coma and wakes up in a mysterious world. At first we don't know anything at all about this world, or whether it's a real world or all in Jay's head. But as he explores the world, he learns more about it, just like with Lost where we start out not knowing anything at all and slowly get the bigger picture of the island. Both shows kind of have that Myst (the game) feeling at first. Early on, Jay learns that the world is run by a mysterious group of kids who are followers of an elusive and mysterious boy named Brad (a la Jacob), who is supposedly in charge but no one's seen him in ages.

Season one of The Odyssey is similar to seasons one to three of Lost. Where Lost has on-island stories and off-island character stories, The Odyssey jumps back and forth from Downworld stories to Upworld (real world) character stories, that compliment or mirror the Downworld story. In season two of the Odyssey, the Upworld stories show Jay coming out of his coma and beginning to deal with life back in the real world, sort of the way the flash forwards did that with our Lost characters in Lost season four. But the biggest parallel is with Lost's sixth season vs. The Odyssey's third season. On the Odyssey, Jay has fully recovered from his coma, resulting in two realities happening at the same time; he exists in both Upworld and Downworld simultaniously, and the show follows Jay in each reality.

Other similarities -- Jay's dead father keeps popping up in Downworld the way Christian keeps popping up on the island in Lost. Midway throught the series, a girl named Medea, one of Brad's followers, ends up joining Jay and his friends; Jay constantly defends her while his friends don't trust her because she's an Other... uh, I mean a Brad follower. The Brad followers are all over the place, but most are at a place called the Tower where no one else is allowed to go, like the Others' temple. Jay and his friends journey to a lighthouse where they see images of themselves in the real world, which is reportedly similar to what's going to happen to Jack in an upcoming Lost episode. Donna, Jay's Upworld friend, walks with a crutch because her leg is paralyzed.; her Downworld counterpart can walk normally, but at various points throughout the series injures her leg, like Locke.

Let's just hope Lost doesn't end like the Odyssey. The Odyssey's final episode is an unresolved cliffhanger. (Although the story, if I remember right, was about combining the two realities. So maybe there is a clue there.)

Anybody else ever see this show? It was on CBC in like the early 90s. Not many websites about it, but here's one.

EDIT: Via a youtube clip. Sounds similar to the Lost main titles.

Not surprising, both shows are probably influenced by similar stories throughout the ages - Alice in Wonderland, The Wizard of Oz and The Twilight Zone for starters.
