Lost deleted scene.

In Journey to Babel Kirk has his classic fight scene with Thelev which starts very abruptly. But a few years back someone found a slightly longer version that had a shot of a crewman ignoring Kirk being attacked and walking calmly offscreen down the corridor. Does anybody remember what thread that was or know where to find that extended clip? Thanks.

It was just mis-timed. The extra was too slow or the actor/stunt person was too fast in jumping out on Kirk.
It was supposed to be Kirk walks past the crewman, then the crewman walks out of frame and then Kirk gets jumped.
But the camera caught the crewman basically ignoring Kirk getting attacked so they had to trim it. At the end they trimmed it as well as Shatner's shirt had pulled up exposing his somewhat flabby belly.

Deleted scenes for myself was watching the DVDs for the first time and finding that certain scenes had been deleted from the BBC prints at the time of screening in the seventies! Which is odd as they always used to say they would scour the earth for a complete edition! :angryrazz:

I always thought the former, but the latter is even more horrifying.

Agreed. Very scary moment. Also interesting is how Sulu/Takei makes kind of a flinching jump - but stops short - at Henoch-in-Spock as the latter travels down to the well right after disturbing poor Uhura. I always wondered if we were supposed to think that Sulu was feinting, thought better of his attack, or if Henoch froze his motor functions before uttering the "Must I make an example of you too, Helm?" line.

Was MIRI banned outright? And not just because of Obnoxious Bonker-Bonker?

I believe it had one screening in 1970 at the end of the BBCs second 'series' of Star Trek but was subsequently removed from their repeats due to complaints that the episode was too scary!

Got a screenshot?

"Personal log, supplemental: I'm beginning to think the captain actually likes getting in fights with random people, for the attention he gets. Maybe if we just ignore him, he'll take the hint that we're all past caring by this point....maybe...yeah, right..."

Heh, when I was a kid, the Onlie at the beginning with the broken bike used to scare the bejezzus out of me.

I don't visit this forum very often, so you can imagine my surprise when I checked in and found someone inquiring about a video clip I edited together way back in 2010! Several months ago my old youtube channel disappeared, along with the clip you've been looking for, which explains why, when you found the old thread, the link to the video didn't work.

Well your inquiry inspired me to repost the clip, which gave me to opportunity to update it for modern youtube. I also added a little something extra too! I guess because I uploaded it as a youtube short, I can't embed the video in this post, so here's a link to it: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/vyqBqySe3-A

Enjoy, and thanks for inspiring me to repost these rare trims!

That's amazing, thanks! Those recovered clips really help fill in the blanks of that slightly oddly-edited fight scene

Ed McCready did look a tad fearful didn't he, until Kirk slapped him and he started sobbing! :wah:

Slap? In the uncut episode, Kirk had to punch him hard in the face, three times. It was edited down to one punch when the show was remastered for syndication in the early 80s. I think this was a rare if not unique case in which Star Trek wasn't just edited for commercial time, but to tone down the violence. Commercial time was still the bigger consideration, of course.

I remembered it as a backhanded slap but I could be mistaken, Zap! I have only seen this episode a couple of times and not for a decade or more at this point!
