I vaguely remember an episode when DS9 was on back in the 90's. The crew was visiting a planet in the Gamma Quadrant. There was a village of people. A little girl sort of bonded with Odo. It was revealed they were holograms or something like that. Not actual physical beings, but for the purposes of the story they could appear as physical beings.
I think it was in the first or second season. I've been watching the show on Amazon Prime. I've been looking through episode descriptions, but so far nothing is looking familiar for this specific plot. Or I'm missing something. I think the little girl was played by the same actress that played Clara Sutter in the TNG episode "Imaginary Friend".
