Looking For Federation Map

insomniac

Ensign
Newbie
Hi everyone, I am new to the forum and tried a few searches, without luck, looking for a thread to answer this question:

Does anyone know where I can purchase a large map or poster of Federation space and the surrounding area? I would like something that is frameable so that I can hang it in my office.

I have seen some great online maps that show the major planets, borders with the Klingons, Rumulans, Cardassians, Ferengi, the varies neutral zones, star bases etc... I have never seen one that comes in paper format that is approximately movie poster size.

TIA

I know nothing that is frameable, but there are several maps in book form. You can also find them online in various forms.

If these books don't have what you want, feel free to get with me. I can help you out with a custom map. We can discuss it off-line. My website information is in my profile.

My personal favorite are the Star Trek Maps from 1980. Definitely frameable and cool looking. But won't have any info from anything past 1980 of course.
Check google and ebay.

I don't have anything full poster quality. But I have several large maps I've collected over the years. I was going to get one digital enlarged and printed for a poster. They are good quality. If you have no other luck, send me a message and I can email them to you if you would like to do the same.

I can't remember the name of the company who put out the TNG videos years back, but I think it was them who put out a poster of the galaxy carved up a la Trek. It was a good poster, I had it on my wall for years. If I remember the name of the company I'll let you know so that you can search for it.

Does anyone know where I can purchase a large map or poster of Federation space and the surrounding area?
One idea would be this ...

There are a number of different Star Trek maps on the internet, find one that you like.

Take the web address to someplace like Kinkos, assuming there's no copyright they would be able to print one (or more) up to poster size for you.

Try to pick a map that has a relatively large format size, otherwise when you enlarge it, it would lose sharpness. The people at Kinkos will be able to compensate somewhat for that by monkeying with the contrast and the saturation..

Good luck.

:)

I still prefer Geoff Mandel's "Star Charts" but finding a copy these days is pricey.

I have seen some books from the 80s that contained some nice charts but I would prefer something framable that is more up to date with all of the series and movies.

I considered this idea originally. The problem is to blow it up to poster size requires a very high resolution graphic file. I haven't been able to find one of those yet.

I don't think I have ever seen this one. If you find additional info I would be very interested.

If you have some high resolution maps that I could print fairly large it would be awesome.

That box set looks fantastic. I do not think it is exactly what I am looking for but the box set looks really nice. An it is on sale at Amazon too.

I must admit, seeing these two responses back-to-back confused me a bit. The Alpha and Beta quadrant maps from the Stellar Cartography set, which King Daniel Into Darkness linked to, would both meet your criteria of "something framable that is more up to date with all of the series and movies". So why is it that this set is not exactly what you're looking for? Is it that you get additional maps beyond the ones that you're interested in? Or is it the size of the maps? Just curious.

I am only going by what I can see in video but my initial thoughts were many of the maps were region specific. I guess the Alpha and Beta quadrant map joined together would be something close to what I am looking for. To make those maps work I would probably have to tape them together before framing. How to join the maps and the final shape of the map could prove problematic. I was hoping to find something in poster format that was rolled instead of folded with the creases. Regardless of how good the framer is they cannot remove the creases totally. I have a lot of framed original art and movie posters. Something with crease lines would look out of place.

Ah, fair enough. Just to let you know, this article on The Trek Collective briefly talks about how you can join the two maps into one... it sounds like you would have to do some cutting. Just FYI. Doesn't help the crease line issue, though.

Isn't that a game supplement? I don't think you'd be able to use that as a "serious" take on Star Trek cartography.
