Looking for a Shatner quote

I recall reading a quote from Shatner many years ago in which he says something very close to "Kirk is the idealized version of me." I want to say that it was in one of the Star Trek Memories books, but I'm not certain of that. I've found a bunch of similar quotes which are far less punchy, but I really want to identify the one I'm thinking of. Any help out there?

I want to say Starlog Magazine, early-mid nineteen eighties.

Kirk gradually turn into Shatner over the course of the movies. Driven, but facing the losses of his life.

He said as much on the LP Inside Star Trek (1976), adding that he'd like to have Kirk's courage and whatnot, but "...but fallible me is fallible me."

I recall reading something along those lines a long time ago.It isn't surprising as Kirk was meant to be something of the classical hero that also has flaws. Shatner saying Kirk was a like "an idealized version of myself" is like saying the character is the person I wish I was really like.

There is also the fact that weekly television production is an exhausting effort. It's inevitable that more and more of an actor's own personality will seep into the character they're playing.

Thanks for following up. To be clear, I'm not trying to convince anyone that that's what Shatner said or that it's true. I'm just trying to find what I recall.

Shatner isn't the only one to express such a sentiment. I have heard similar things from other performers over the years
