Look at this new picture from TinTin the movie

Now it's just creepy in a whole other way-- a real person's eyes inserted into a cartoonish face. lol

Declaring the uncanny valley defeated is premature, not having seen the images in motion. davejames has a valid point too. However, I agree that progress towards its defeat has been made here.

I think the Captain is still caricatured enough (the nose, for example) as to avoid the uncanny valley problem. Shrink the nose to human proportions and we'll see.

It really irritates my friends and family when I point out it's pronounced TanTan.

I have watched every trailer for this film. To me it looks awful. There is rarely, if ever, a scene where we hear we hear someone talk and get a closeup of their face. It's like they were afraid to show it because it looks awful. Plus the characters and action seem very generic somehow.

Damn right, they aren't replicating real life human beings or actors just comic characters.

Looks like Zemeckis is weeping seeing that picture saying "Why didn't i think of that for my Mocap movies".

Do you agree the Captain has emotions even in the eyes? they aren't dead and your not staring at a corpse.

For me it's not just the faces that are the problem, it's everything ABOUT the mo-cap style. The weird way the characters move, the stiff, blocky clothing they all have, the overly realistic lighting and atmosphere...

The way the movies try SO hard to replicate real life and real human behavior (yet never quite getting there) always either comes off as distracting or vaguely creepy to me.

Am I the only person who had never heard of Tin Tin before this film was announced?

I saw the trailer, it looks like shit, I hate almost lifelike but still obviously animated cartoon characters running around. I don't care if the eyes look good, it's still creepy. Pick animation/CGI or live action, don't try to create "realistic" characters using computers, it just doesn't work.

The phrase “neither fish nor fowl” comes to mind.

One of the few, apparently. Tintin’s been around a long time.

What makes games like L.A. Noire or films like Avatar different from this? did the Na'Vi creeped you out?

As a cartoonist, I say they should have gone for a strictly traditional animated picture. As close to the original TinTin style as you can get.

That being said, I do think the Captain looks pretty good.
