This story has just broken in Australia

A SEARCH is on for a man believed to have thrown a little girl from the top of Melbourne's West Gate Bridge before driving off.The girl, believed to be five years old, was pulled from the water by water police close to the pumping station at Spotwood around 9.30am.
She has been flown to the Royal Children's Hospital in a critical condition.
Witnesses told police they saw a man stop on an inbound lane near the top of the West Gate.
He threw the child into the waters below and then drove off, they said.
The police homicide unit is expected to arrive at the scene soon.
Police are investigating how the incident happened.

Poor little girl. let's hope that she recovers. What sort of person would do something like this?

What the Christ? I am glad I can't understand these sort of people because it would scare me if I did.

Well, I hope the little girl can be saved. Good thing there were some water police nearby to rescue her.

The guy is obviously demented and needs to be locked up.

It seem that the man has been arrested.

Apparently the child didn't go into the water but was found on the ground close to the bank. It seems that she fell about 50 meters.

The little girl, named Darcy Freeman, has died.

It is now being said that the girl was a 4 year old and her 36 year old father has been charged with murder. It seems that he had his other two children, aged 6 and 8, in the car at the time but he didn't harm them.

The man was arrested outside the Federal Court.

Jesus H. Christ. What makes people like this girl's father tick? Actually it's probably best if we don't know.

While this doesn't compare to the murder suicide of a man killing his wife and five kids in LA yesterday, it's an extremely shocking event. I have a 9-month-old and can't even dream of harming her. Even if she's crying her eyes out being a complete pest YOU DON'T THROW THEM OVER A BRIDGE.

"Police are investigating how the incident happened."

Something about that bland line really infuriates me. You investigate how the milk got left out over night, or how the lights got left on all day or how the dog got out.

I've read some shocking news reported on the bbs. Words fail me here. :(

Words fail me. I trust and hope there is some kind of system that will get the other children away from this nutter.

:(

Some brain cells malfunction in one person, and another person dies before her life even began. At least the other kids are okay, although this day is not likely to effect them well.

That is simply disgusting. I cannot imagine as a father, (or a person for that matter) hurting my child. or any child for that matter.

Reports are still sketchy, naturally, but there are mentions of divorce procedings between the parents. If true, it is one more notch in the ill that children are so often made weapons and victims in such things. I could almost wish that if divorce procedings are opened the children are automatically removed till the parents can prove they are not complete assholes.

I told my colleague about this at work today. She started at me as if I'd taken leave of my senses. I had to find the story on the web before she was really able to believe me.

SYDNEY (AFP) - An Australian man was charged with murder after allegedly throwing his four-year-old daughter from a city bridge into a river during peak hour traffic on Thursday, police said.

The 36-year-old man, believed to be involved in a custody battle with the girl's mother, allegedly threw her from a 60-metre (200-feet) high section of the West Gate bridge into the Yarra River in the southern city of Melbourne.
