List of news services at Enterprise-B launch?

Ian Keldon

Fleet Captain
I've found a few of the names online, and logos for a few more that I can't confirm as being production-sourced.

The two I'm relatively certain of are:

Federation News Network
Federation News Service

The ones I'm not as sure of:

Galactic Broadcasting System

An artist by the name of Reverend did a bunch of logos that I've heard claimed are production-sourced for these services, but I can't confirm their authenticity either.

Any help would be appreciated.

*edit*

Ok, I can confirm GNN, Federation Press and Information, and UFB. Bernd has their logos on his site, and he's a pretty good stickler for canon.

But he adds another name to the list:

EBS Terranews

dude, that's so weird. I saw the thread title and came in here deliberately with the intention of making a very similar Faux News joke.

Thanks a lot for stealing my thunder.

I was going to make essentially the same joke using News International.

Not to worry...

Why? What does it matter? Post some links and I will probably follow them. Then again, why post such a theoretical thread where it wasn't even important?

Sorry. Great minds and all that?

Oh, I know. It wasn't real anger, just amused frustration at the coincidence and getting beat to it.

As to the thread question, have you tried google or a Trek wiki?

^Yes, which is what got me as far as I've gotten

Memory Alpha, for example, only includes the first two (FNN and FNS). Bernd had more on his site, and his canon policy is almost as restrictive as theirs, but I couldn't find confirmation from other sources, so I'm asking here.

Without a "canon policy" for such stuff, you open yourself up to the wild and woolly extrapolations. I'd tend to trust Bernd. He's thorough. Why not email him for his further thoughts?

What can happen without a self-imposed "seen on screen", or "stated in official press releases" or "as explained by the designer" type rule, is that you can end up with unsourced extrapolations that originated in fan films, fanfic or fan-created websites.

When I was compiling what I hoped would be a definitive online gallery of UFP aliens, I always ended up with about ten alien pics that had never been assigned a nomenclature and just as many scripted names of alien races that had never been realised on screen. I often found websites where fans had decided just to "match 'em up" (I've been tempted/guilty myself), or give them their own made-up names. Of course, these were sometimes overruled by licensed novels, comics or RPGs - or onscreen canon itself - so such information is always unreliable.

Can we please not do politics? I'm just looking for information.

Any thread with absolutely any theme is a potential can of worms with this group.

At least this way, the postings will keep the thread afloat so someone with real information might see it.

Otherwise, it dies a quick death & sinks to the bottom.
