I just installed Mint on my laptop, and I am running XP on the other partition.

Should I use the Ubuntu version of WINE and VirtualBox?
:alienblush:

In short, yes. Mint is based on Ubuntu and they share the same repositories. You should be able to find VirtualBox by searching your package manager. You may have to add the Wine repository manually or find a current .deb package.

Wait, WINE has its own repo? RPMs or debs? What packages do they have in it? And how do they differ from the versions in Debian's repo? Cheers!

w00t, got them both installed. Now the next thing is to get my wifi working (apparently a common problem with my model of Ga(y)tway laptop. Then I shall start putting WINE to the test...

Yeah, they have their own repo for development versions, at least for Debian-based distros...not sure about RPMs.

That's kinda shiny! (And I don't really care about RPMs, since I use Debian.) I don't think I'll have much use for it though, since I am only a very occasional user of WINE.

Pensive: Sorry for hijacking your thread. And please ignore what we're saying, you'll want to use Mint's version of WINE, which can be installed through Synaptic.

hijack away! I'll understand it all eventually lol

I am ready to kick something.. the wifi is not working, and we did the whole "ndiswrapper to install drivers" thing, plus a half a dozen other methods. I am wondering also why the hell I can't find mintWifi to help me out. I reinstalled it but no dice. I do have to laugh though, if something buggy is going to happen to a system, it's going to happen on my watch. I bet I could make $$$$$ as a tester!

Sorry, I should have been more specific. If you give me the card model and the error messages you're getting, I could google about and see if I could help you out?
