I apologize if a similar thread has appeared on here before...I am currently watching Season 7 of "24" on DVD. I have noticed MANY links to Trek including:
-Manny Coto is an Executive Producer
-Brannon Braga is a Co-Executive Producer
-John Billingsley,Tony Todd and, Conner Trinnear have appeared so far (I am on episode 19) -- Not to mention TNG Season 4 "The Wounded" guest star Bob Gunton in a starring role this season.
-A person by the name of "Rick Berman" was mentioned as a possible candidate for the Chief of Staff position -- in an episode written by Coto & Braga!
However, the most obvious parallel/connection to Trek for me has been how much President Allison Taylor reminds me of one Captain Kathryn Janeway. It is uncanny. Cherry Jones (the actress playing Taylor) even portrays the character much like Mulgrew's Janeway -- so much so that I wonder why they didn't just cast Mulgrew in the role (not that Ms. Jones isn't completely excellent in the role.) Some of her lines are even spoken as if they were written for Janeway -- there is even an emphatic "Do It!" now and again. The episode where Taylor was taken hostage by terrorists is uncannily similar to a scene in Basics Part 1:
-Taylor and Janeway both stand up to the bad guy with verbal defiance.
-Each is then struck across the face by the bad guy
-Each bad buy then informs the President/Captain that they are not in control of the situation
Has anyone else noticed these parallels?
