I'm confused. I thought the movie was shot in 2D but was going to be converted to 3D in post production?

That had been my understanding, and it sounds like it still will be a conversion, but it looks like they've added a wrinkle to the on-set filming:

I think I've seen this extra "3D pass" talked about somewhere before, but can't recall at this moment whether it was to do with Star Trek or in connection with some other production.
