Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer Films have plunked down low-seven figures against $3.5 million
for Terry Rossio and Bill Marsilii's epic space adventure "Lightspeed."

Story centers on a young pilot who makes the Earth Interstellar Racing Team and must take his ship on a perilous journey across the galaxy on the brink of war.

Bruckheimer envisions the project as a live-action and potentially 3D pic.

This film is in development and doesn't have a imdb.com page yet.

Hey great a space adventure film.

This project has nothing to do with "Stan Lee's Lightspeed" (2006) action scifi film project.

Yeah saw this story earlier and maybe it will be worth checking out...

The plot to this sounds familiar for some reason, I think a space based series had a stand-alone episode like this or maybe a cartoon or something.

^ The "Great Race" motif is a fairly common one, I think. I recall more than a few of my childhood cartoons had an episode along those lines, usually organized by some rich eccentric or cosmic power, and always with the regular bad guys as the opposition. Or, I seem to recall one of my first Superman comics was a compendium where he races the Flash, first on Earth, and then forced into a rematch on a galactic scale.

Stargate SG-1 had a space race episode, and I believe Voyager had one as well.

Anything with spaceships and space opera type setting gets me excited, there is not nearly enough of that stuff produced.

Can't say racing stories interest me that much, even if they take place in space. This doesn't excite me at all.

Oh yes, Bruckheimer is a big name, and its nice to see a big name attached to a space adventure. But this storyline doesn't interest me. Give me a good old fashioned humans vs aliens with lasers and spaceship dog fights. I can only watch the Star Wars movies so many times, people.

Bruckheimer might be a big name but when it comes down to it, for the most part the films and tv he's involved in a long on flash very short on substance.

To be honest, I actually haven't seen most of his stuff. In fact the only things that comes to mind at the moment that I did see are the Pirates of the Carribean movies. The first was pretty good.

So the extended space cut of the Phantom Menace's pod race. Joy. I wonder if the main 'hero' will only have two facial expressions, too.

I prefer to hope that it'll be like Hidalgo in space, with a cool talking space ship.
