Sam was in uniform. I didn't catch the whole conversation, but it sounded like Sam was just hitching a ride. Like in Catch Me If You Can when Leo was getting free rides by pretending to be a pilot on transfer. I don't know what the term for it is.

I didn't notice Sam's uniform...I do remember that Harris asked him to accompany him on the flight. I thought that meant Sam was to be the co-pilot or something.

Its called "deadheading". My father in law was a pilot and they used to deadhead all of the time back in the day. Nowadays they try to arrange a return flight to minimize personnel costs/waste.
He's not there to pilot the plane. He's there as a passenger. One of the industry perks. Free airtravel. If a plane's traveling where you need to go, you can hitch a ride.Sam was in uniform. So what does it mean? They just keep an extra pilot on board in case something goes wrong, like a last minute sickness? Or was Sam there to fly the plane *back* to its origin after Harris deplaned?
