Lena Heady as a Starfleet Captain?

Dingo

Captain
Captain
If ever there were a new Star Trek Series I wonder if Lena Heady would fare well as a Starfleet Captain. I'd think she'd be good for the role. I mean she has had a great track record of playing strong female characters, after all she played Queen Gorgo in 300 and does a very good job of playing Sarah Connor in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. I think she'd be a great Starfleet captain. Any thoughts?

Interesting:vulcan:

If she wasn't cast as a skipper, she'd be good as 1st Officer.

Maybe she's the 1701-F's skipper?

I think she would be well suited for it. I'm sure there will b a lot of people to jump on me for this, but I never liked Kate Mulgrew in voyager. It's too bad we didn't have someone more like Lena Heady.

Judging solely from her performance in TSCC I'd say she'd make far better First Officer material than Captain. She gives Sarah Connor an internal strength which works for that character but might not project strength when facing down a fleet of Borg cubes. Captains need to be wear their power and authority on their sleeves, and I'm not sure that that is where Headey's strength, certainly in Connor mode, lies.

Nevertheless, I'm a big fan of her in TSCC, and it'd be great to see her in a new Trek series. :techman:

I'd say based on her role in The 300 that she could definitely project strength. I think using her own accent would be good too.

I'd say she'd be a good first officer if they didn't cast her as Captain, but I disagree there. Her role as Queen Gorgo definitely shows her to project an external power and authority. I agree with TheSeeker in all respects on that note.

I wonder which era of Trek she'd be best in. A sereis set in the TOS era? A Dominion War era series?

She's in 2 of my favourite things: 300 and SCC. However, I've never really connected with her. I'm afraid I don't really buy her portrayals of either of those tough women. Still, reading through this thread, plenty of other folks do. I think she'd make a more believeable first officer than captain.

You know what, I just imagined how she'd be as a First Officer, with Marc Alaimo portraying a human captain. Crazy mental image I know.

She could be a new Rachel Garrett, although I doubt CBS will start a new TV series in the future of the new timeline. I imagine that the first new trek TV show will occur contemporaneously with the new film.

I can totally see it. Remember when they always mentioned the USS Crazyhorse in TNG when they wanted to sound like they were sending out the heavy hitters? I can see these two commanding it! :techman:

I get the feeling if Alaimo used even a tenth of the ego-tist (even a 'good guy' egotist) to play this fictitious captain he'd drive Heady's character nuts. I can see them as playing perfect opposites to each other.

Alaimo using some Dukat-esque grandiose idealistic rhetoric with the more down to earth Heady as the First Officer to execute her captain's hairbrained schemes. What a contrast and an image that amuses me to no end. That'd be a web comic right there.

Yeah, and with the guy who plays Derek Reese from SCC as her first officer, I could see it. And just to keep a token Android, I could see Summer Glau as a more advanced android, an improvement on the Soong Class.

That'd be interesting, but that was more a play on what I imagined as various cast members of TSCC playing Starfleet personnel.

I'd say definitely Heady has it in her as an actress to portray a Starfleet Captain. Heck if I were to pick an actress other than Kate Mulgrew to play Janeway, Heady would be my first pick.
