Lego Worlds

Does anyone else play Lego's new Minecraft-'em-up? We got it a couple of days ago, it's a bit buggy but hopefully regular updates should help with that.

It's a LEGO game not based on a property, I won't expect it to be around this time next year.

(Which is sad because I'm a huge LEGO fan.)

I've picked this up off the supermarket shelf a few times, but each time I've put it back. I love the LEGO games, but I have one question about this one.

As @bigdaddy says, it's not based on an actual property (and games like that haven't been great), so what's the big draw about this one? And is it going to be like LEGO Dimensions where you're going to have to buy LEGO toys to improve it?

Basically what IS it? Is it just a Minecraft knock off? (Ironic as I always considered Minecraft a LEGO knock-off.) Or is there an actual point to the game?

I don't think you need to buy add on toys like Dimensions (which is most likely ending a year earlier than planned.) but I'm curious to if there will be a monthly fee like the other doomed LEGO games.

And don' forget there are actually LEGO Minecraft sets, which I find amazing. :)

It's a standalone Minecraft style game, you go to different randomly generated worlds, collecting items and Gold Bricks. Scanning new plants, animals, and people to add them to your catalogue of usable parts for when you eventually unlock the ability to create your own Lego World when you get 100 Gold Bricks.

Apparently there's online play where you can share your creations and visit friend's worlds. But I've never used it because I'm a sad little loner and so is my housemate. ;)

Sounds like No Man's Sky.

I've been curious about it, but haven't taken the plunge. It seems to take many elements from the licensed games. There also might be more of a point to the game other than just building. I heard it encourages exploring? It looks a bit more interesting than Minecraft to me at least.

I got it a little over a year ago on Steam when it was still in Early Access (Only 15 bucks). I haven't played it since it hit mainstream release, so I can't speak to v1.0 yet. When I last played it was obviously still a WIP, with limited features. One thing I liked about what I played is that there are several different types of regenerated "biomes" to explore, as opposed to every one being the same type of environment. And in addition to being able to build anywhere on them, you can also alter terrain. Obviously more features have been added since I last played.

Now keep in mind they are still working ion the game, so expect more features in the future. Hopefully not too much of the DLC will be paid, though any license based DLC (DC, Star Wars, etc.), if any ever comes, would understandably have to be.
