Lego Pirates of the Caribbean

Dream

Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow is getting the brick treatment next May as the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise will join Star Wars, Batman and Indiana Jones in being immortalized and poked fun at in a Lego video game.

Timed to arrive a few weeks before the May theatrical release of Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Lego Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game will take players through key moments in all four Pirates of the Caribbean films. There will be more then 20 levels to explore and pillage either solo or cooperatively with a swashbuckling friend.

Awesome! I'm so glad they are going do a Lego video game of one of my favorite franchises. The Lego games are so much fun.

While I enjoyed the first two Lego Star Wars games I'm definitely sick of playing any more of them. It's the same exact game every time just with different visuals.

You could say that about Mario or Zelda or CoD or Halo or Madden, etc. Not to say that I can't see how one could get tired of the gimmick after a few of them of course.

I love these games, and one of the main reasons is the parody and humour they bring to them. While they obviously share a lot of similarities, there is a pretty big difference the gameplay and presentation of the Star Wars editions compared to, say, the Harry Potter game.

I used to have the SW ones for my 360, and my wife has every single one of them for her DS. She loves Pirates too, so she'll be thrilled about this news. I'll just play around with it after she's done.

Actually I'm completely sick of the Zelda games as well, it's literally the same thing every game right down to the same themed temples.

Halo at least has an interesting story and I do feel like each game is different from the next.

I probably won't get LEGO Pirates. I still haven't picked up LEGO Harry Potter. I hope hope hope that Warners liked the tech demo Travelers Tales put together for LEGO Hobbit, because I'd want that -- and LEGO Lord of the Rings. :)

Interesting. Especially since Megablocks made the physical sets a while back. :wtf:

I got a little burnt out on the LEGO games after Batman, so I might pass. However, I will say that I think about picking up the Harry Potter game every time I see it in the store.

Yes, they did some Fellowship sets. I wasn't impressed with them.

I wouldn't mind if LEGO picked up the license for The Hobbit and released some sets when the films come out. The last few years of the LEGO Castle line were clearly influenced by Lord of the Rings and World of WarCraft; the new LEGO Kingdoms line is an attempt to go back to the classic Castle sets of the mid-80s.

I'd like to think that they're putting the fantasy elements that had crept into Castle away because LEGO is going to do something explicitly fantasy in the next few years -- like Hobbit/Lord of the Rings. :)

Although I enjoyed the movies, I'm not sure if I want to go for any more Lego games. Starting with the second Indiana Jones one they really dropped in quality for me. The new style of gameplay with split screen and a giant in-between world which you have to explore to find the next level just makes the game less enjoyable. Everything ends up looking way too small on the screen and I can never figure out where I am or get a proper camera perspective. The new Harry Potter one is especially bad with this.

It would be nice if they would provide a map of the castle or something, because although it's easy enough to just follow the ghost around to the next place, I can't actually do any exploring on my own because I have no idea how to get anywhere. And sometimes I can't even tell if I've made it into a level, I'm still on the castle grounds, or I'm learning a spell in some random place, or I'm wandering around Diagon Alley. It's really quite confusing! There's no need for so many steps to be taken just to enter a level. And there are so many things to do and collect in the game that it is a bit overwhelming, the game just feels so cluttered.

I miss the Star Wars ones, where the in-between world is a very simple and straightforward place just designed to get you from one level to the next. If the new Pirates ones are anything like the second Indiana Jones or Harry Potter game, then I think I'll pass.
